We stayed at Ancorra from 16-23 June '07. The hotel is conveniently located with free parking (very important in Positano)and our room had a lovely view both from the sun terrace and the jacuzzi in the bathroom but that's all it had going for it. The breakfast was poor for this standard of hotel and the breakfast room was horrid, there's
no room service, no bar, no internet access (we had to go into the
'town' to an internet cafe) in fact, none of the things one expects of a hotel in this class. Eden Roc in the same price bracket is only a little further up the hill and is a much better hotel, with a pool and better facitlities. Ancorra's sister hotel Covo dei Sarancene is also a much better hotel, right on the beach so perhaps not so conveniently located and no parking but far more facilities and a lovely breakfast room overlooking the bay and the best pool around.

We loved the view from our room. From the jacuzzi tub in the bathroom you could view the sea as well as from the balacony.

Positano is a breathtaking and magical place. This hotel displayed this well.

You can use the sister hotel's, that is pretty close to the beach.

Only negative is that there is no restaurant or food offered other than breakfast.

There is plenty of parking, which is quite important as parking is at a premium.

Positano is a magical place and that comes at a price. We thought Hotel Ancora was a good affordable hotel for the area (which is already very posh!). The hallways and common areas were a bit run-down but our room was nice and the bathroom was gorgeous. Even though there is no swimming pool on site guests can use the one at Covo dei Saraceni, which has spectacular views.

I agree with the previous review. Had a suite with a jacuzzi and the views from the balcony were spectacular. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This hotel was located right next door from the pricey Le Sirenuse Hotel. The only drawback was the location. By that I mean it was an easy walk going down to the beach and were most of the restaurants were. But, going back to the hotel the walk is very steep and could be difficult for some people. Fortunately, we had a wonderful balcony with lounge chairs and stayed right there. We only made the journey once a day down for dinner. Make sure you wear very comfortable shoes.

Positano I found to not have much going on, I preferred Sorrento and Capri as far as shops and restaurants, etc. If I had to do over I would have just taken a day trip to Positano and not stayed there.
