I looked at a lot of reviews before we went, and many of them are very negative. I have to say, that if you're used to being pampered and having 5-star quality, then this is probably below your expectations. But you won't find anything better than this hotel in the quaint little town of Portovenere. We loved our room, and have never had a better view of anything in all of our travels. Our room had a HUGE balcony and looked out over the bay and the town of Portovenere. They had espresso and snacks in the lobby, so we would just grab that and hang out in our very comfy chairs on our balcony and watch all of the happenings of the little town. The sounds of the town were wonderful - we kept our door open the whole night and were able to be serenaded to sleep by the sounds of the waves, and woken by the bell ringing and birds singing. As you can tell, I loved this place. We got married on the veranda, and it was absolutely gorgeous! The breakfast was one of the best that we had throughout our stay, with many different selections. The only downfall was that you had to pay if you wanted scrambled eggs, so we just ate all of the other things that they had available. Our room was very decent sized, but the balcony was probably bigger than our room! The location was great, as we were right in the middle of Portovenere, and then we took the ferry to Cinque Terre - beautiful ride!

this is a beautiful old hotel right across the street from the storybook harbor and town. Pay the extra charge and get a room with the wonderful sea view. Its worth it! Throw open the shutters, open the windows and feel the sun on your face, the beautiful ocean breeze and smell the sea air!
The room was larger than the typical European hotel room, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Lots of choices and dining room overlooked the harbor. You can sit out on the veranda in warm weather. Perfect.
A word of advice about dining in the area: most of the restaurants on the harbor are good, but overpriced and cater to tourists. Try to go a little further afield for a better deal.

Hotel location is perfect for accessing the ferry to go to the towns of Cinque Terre. If you need to get to the trains in La Spezia it will be about a 30 min. bus ride. Great location and views from rooms looking out to bay. Rooms are clean & comfortable. Balconies were small with small openings but it is Italy. Helpful staff.

Loading/unloading luggage from a car troublesome as hotel is on narrow 1 way road. Cars can get by you but busses can not. If you need to leave for a bus you must make a 3-4 mile loop to get back to the hotel or park 50 meters or more down the road and do a bag drag.

This hotel and room was very adequate. It is a decent stay in Portovenere with good service. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was fine, nothing wonderful but not bad. The view we had of the town was lovely. Large continental breakfast. Very small shower.
