“My perfect wedding at La Rocca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

I go to La Rocca often for my job as a tour guide in Italy and I chose La Rocca for my wedding reception. Everything was perfect! The rooms were great, the food unbeatable and the atmosphere was romantic and fun. All of my guests were treated wonderfully and made to feel right at home here in Italy. I can't thank the staff at La Rocca enough for their help from the flowers to to room arrangements and the attention paid to every detail. If you are looking for a romantic place to stay with a fantastic restaurant this is it. If you would like to arrange a fantastic destination wedding, look no further!

“A Wonderful Find In The Hills of Orvieto!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

We choose this property based on the TA reviews. Our two nights here were two of the most enjoyable on our trip. We booked a double room in the main building with a small patio overlooking the hills, pool and valley below. The bath was very Italian (too small with no storage space), but was clean and functional. Wonderful pool area with small service bar and shade if you wish. The Jacuzzi is extra.

Breakfast was good and dinners on the dining room patio were very good although some may find the menu a little quirky. La Rocca’s own wine is an excellent choice. Since this property is located up a narrow hilly drive we choose to go out during the day and return in time for dinner and drinks. I’d much rather stay here than adjacent to or within the main old cities. A car is a must of course here.

“Wonderful views from a wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2009

We stayed for two nights at this more upscale agriturismo. Breathtaking views from our room. The room was furnished in warm country furnishings. The room we stayed in was in the main house and there was a nice little private terrace just outside of our room but unfortunately it was a little chilly when we were there so we could not take advantage of it. It would have been wonderful to sit out there and have a glass of wine with those beautiful views of the countryside.
The room itself was quite large and cosy. The bathroom large with all modern fixtures.
The bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean.
The staff at the front desk were very helpful with directions and even made a reservation for us to visit the cave tours in Orvieto.
Breakfast was very good with meats, cheeses, cereals, yogurt, bread, pastries, juice, fruit, etc. and wonderful cappuccinos.
We ate dinner there one of the evenings and it was on the expensive side. The food was good but does not warrant a five star. We had a bottle of their own wine which was surprisingly very good. After dinner the owner came to ask us if we wanted a tour of their wine cellar. We went downstairs and checked out his limited wine cellar. We chatted and this is when we discovered that the wine we had ordered with dinner was their own .
It was not a long drive from there into Orvieto. The dog and the cat on the grounds were very friendly. It is a beautiful property and very well maintained. I thought it was very good value for the money and would not hesitate to stay there again.

“Upscale agriturismo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2009

La Rocca was a very pleasant stay, but a bit more "high-end" than your average agriturismo. The rooms were clean and well-decorated, a good size. We had a deck which looked out on the countryside. The pool was a nice feature. Dinner was pricey, but featured lots of local produce and meats, and the wine from La Rocca was quite tasty, and featured some unusual grapes for an Italian vineyard. The breakfast was above average with a fantastic cappucino. It's about a twenty-minute drive from beautiful Orvieto, but the walk to the nearby "Rocca" was fun. A short hike up and down with nice views across the valley to the hill town of Orvieto. We also enjoyed a walk around the grapevines, but would've like a bit more focus and information from the staff with regard to the winemaking. Not exactly a rustic stay, but nice nonetheless.

“Nice property, but can I give it a glowing review? 'It's not possible.'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

The property is beautifully situated with some commanding views of the countryside, Orvieto, and La Rocca, which is a pleasant stroll away. The rooms are very nice and decorated in a country-house style that makes them very comfortable. The pool and exercise room were nice and in good condition, and the free Internet was useful. There's a friendly dog that makes you feel at home.

I suppose we expected something more from an agriturismo experience. The restaurant was expensive and, while good, it felt more like a stuffy 5-star restaurant than an agriturismo. Breakfast was more American continental breakfast style than Umbrian. We asked if we could see the farm side of the agriturismo, but Valentina didn't give much guidance other than to say we can just walk there ourselves, which we tried to do but were unsuccessful. We took advantage of the mountain bikes, but the first couple of bikes were not functioning and the bikes we eventually rode were not in good shape so we didn't ride far.

The hotel is a good but not great value, as it is much more expensive than most any other agriturismo we looked at. And this is Umbria, not Tuscany. We stayed there on the last days before the low season, so we paid a 20% premium over low season rates. Prior to booking, we asked Valentina for a discount since we were a day away from the low season and were booking rather late, but her response was "it's not possible." One complaint on checking out: they charge you in U.S. dollars and convert it at a rotten exchange rate. I asked Valentina to re-run the charge in Euro, so I could save about $15, but she said "it's not possible."

Would we recommend it? Yes, but not if you're looking for a rustic agriturismo experience. Expect more of a resort, with somewhat uneven service from the staff.
