We had spent the week in Tuscany and were leaving from Rome the next day. All the Rome hotels seemed to be full, so we stayed in this hotel in Orvieto -- about 1.5 hours north of Rome. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are off-putting - it's right on the highway and not anywhere near the scenic historic part of Orvieto. The room was clean but spartan, although it had a refrigerator (disguised nicely as a piece of furniture). The hotel is located in the general area of a number of good sites. We had already toured Orvieto when we traveled to Tuscany from Rome, so we spent the afternoon at nearby Civita di Bagnerregio, an incredible hilltop city that can only be reached by a footpath. We essentially used the hotel as a place to sleep. The staff spoke English and was very helpful and a very good breakfast was included -- yogurt, coffee, bread, jam, croissants, cereal, milk, fruit. It looked like we were the only Americans there -- the hotel was full and all the other guests appeared to be Italian with a couple of people from Ireland.
