After very long travel hours and days without luggage (it was lost for the first 6 days of our trip) we arrived in Chuisi by train to pick up a our rental car and drove to La Bruciata near Montepulciano. After a few wrong turns we finally arrived at this perfect. scenic, quiet piece of heaven.
I know this sounds silly but Laura showed us our 1 bedroom apartment and as we walked through the apartment we went into the bedroom. Laura opened the curtains, french doors and wood shutters which lead to a small balcony and the beautiful countryside, the view was just how I had imagined Tuscany in my many months (really years) of planning this trip and I was so happy I just cried! Really, I CRIED! Poor Laura, she probably thought I was nuts. I hugged her (now she really thought I was nuts) and thanked her and told her it was just what I had imagined, the view from our bedroom overlooking the hills of Tuscany was stunning, drop dead gorgeous! It exceeded my expectations.
It is a small Agritourismo, very well kept, in a quiet area very near Pienza and Montepulciano. Great base to drive to Siena, and south Tuscany towns and even some Umbria towns.
The breakfast is very good, one of the best during our trip, yogurt, fruit, fresh baked cake, cereal, some days cheese and meats, or bruscetta. The coffee and cappuciano was definately the best we had in Italy. The welcome dinner provided with a weeks stay was dynamite. Laura's Mama (Marissa) cooks on certain nights and will cook a full Italian
dinner if you ask in advance for a reasonable fee. (The morning of the dinner is fine) We probably drove her nuts, but requested dinner 5 of the 7 nights we stayed, and did not find a better meal during our 15 day tour of Italy. The price was also very reasonable, and the house wine was better then wonderful.
When we first arrived, I got a bad respitory bug.. I was really sick and I called my doctor in the states who suggested an antibiotic. I wrote down the name and dose of the antibiotic and my husband was able to purchase it at a reasonable fee from an Italian Pharmacy without the usual written prescription required in the U.S. My husband went into town for the medicines and I spent the day in bed, even missed breakfast.
The weather was perfect, probably 70's so the bedroom french door was open as I layed in bed all day feeling miserable and sorry for myself. (You've got to be kidding me, I've planned this trip for a year and now I'm too sick to get out of bed?) Under our apartment was the kitchen and small resturant and I spent the day being sick but listening to laughter from the women cooking and canning downstairs, dealing with the day to day operations of the Agristurismo. If I had to be sick on vacation, I'm glad it was at La Bruciata.
The stars at night will Knock your eyes out if your from a city. So many stars.
The grapes were harvested during our visit, and we had a sneaky but cute and harmless stray cat sneak into our apartment a couple of nights looking for garbage. (that's what happens when you leave your doors open) The chickens and Roosters definately provided entertainment, the pool was beautiful and very well maintained. The apartment had a small but fully equipped kitchen, we preferred Mama's cooking to my own so didn't use it except to warm up cans of soup during my recovery. The steam shower was wonderful since I had a horrible chest cold during our visit.and taking a steam shower really helped with my breathing. The fireplace looked good but we did not use it during our stay.
My husband would like to permenantly locate to La Bruciata, he thinks it's the perfect place to spend the rest of our lives. I agree with him!
But please do not tell anyone , we want to keep it a secret.
Thank you Laura and Mama for sharing your little piece of paradise.
