The Silvanetta Palace is a nice-enough, moderately priced facility in Milazzo, a small city in northeast Sicily that serves as a port for the Aeolian Islands. In addition it is not far from Taormina and provides much more affordable and available lodging than that neighboring resort town. In Milazzo, as in several Sicilian cities, there is a scarcity of street signs; and navigation at night is quite a challenge for visitors. The Silvanetta Palace responded to our advance request for directions with not much more than an assurance that "you can't miss it," stating that there was only one way into town and that signs would point to their hotel. Suffice it to say this was not true in any regard, and when after an hour of searching, we finally stumbled on it (we had actually given up and decided to drive into the first hotel we could find), we were greeted with an indifference completely unworthy of the normally helpful and friendly Italian people. This could be a good hotel if they had any concept of service; as it is, I cannot recommend it.
