Our family (of 5) stayed in this hotel and had a room overlooking the main square of Menaggio. Our view included the square and the lake and couldn't have been better. The drawback was that without airconditioning, we had to leave windows open and therefore hear all the noise of people in the square till all hours of the night. You also have to be prepared to carry your luggage up 3 flights of stairs. All that being said, the location and view made this our favorite hotel in a 5 city trip through Italy and Spain.

Nice guest house with a beautiful location. It is an annex of the Hotel du Lac in Menaggio. I normally stay away from community bathrooms, but the two here were very nice. Price is pretty good for the area. Room was reasonable with no frills except for a beautiful view (sometimes you don't need much else). After receiving a reservation for a room with a view, on arrival, they tried to put me in a much more expensive room in the hotel. After I protested, they then tried to put me in an annex room without a view. After further protest, I finally got what I had reserved in the first place, and it was nice. Logistics can be fun: We took a train from Milan to Varenna, then a ferry to Menaggio. You'll have to walk about 5 minutes in Varenna and Menaggio, but we thought it was fun. It's a very good home base for visiting all of the central Lake Como area.
