Why the reference to Scotland? Well, that is where the host, Eleanor, hails from. Her love for her adopted Italy is evident in her warm Scottish accented tips of what to do and what to see in and around Menaggio. It's almost as if speaking with a fellow traveller!
The B&B she runs with her Italian husband and family is perched high above Menaggio in the village of Croce. The view from the garden terrace where she serves a good breakfast with 'perk you up' Italian coffee is superb.

Our room with garden view was spacious and bright. The location is very good, the only drawback being that you have to drive down a winding road to Menaggio for dinner, but you trade a view and quieteness with the bustle of places in town. Since we were on a travelling schedule, we stayed at Balcone Fiorito only one night, but I could easily envision staying there longer to enjoy the tranquility and view from the garden while sipping a glass of wine after a day of exploring the local environs.

Being at Balcone Fiorito is already the excellent start of our Holiday. We started 5 years ago, we discovered Italy for the first time, not knowing one word Italian.
We travelled Como - mennaggio (first night stay) and then passed to Sinalungo (Toscane). Two year later we did the same trip. This summer we discovered another piece of Italy.
Balone Fiorito is wonderful. you meet other nationalities, by meeting the host (Scottish) and her husband Italian. This year there were Australians, French people, Danish and Belgians.
The rooms are spacious, you have good beds, nice accomodation (TV, internet, refrigerator, Hot Water boiler), bathroom, good and extended Breakfast.
The host guides you to the most wonderful and tailor made dayly occupations in the region.
Special dietary is no problem. I eat glutenfree bread, every thing is taken care of.
Really good stay in wonderfull luxury location

I have known the landlady for several years after my first visit back in 2009. When I came again in 2011, I didn't hesitate to stay at her bed and breakfast again. Beds are comfortable, there is ample parking space, good location and some excellent views. Most impressive is the level of service - freshly cooked breakfasts everyday - and the landlady always asked what we wanted to eat for breakfast. Fresh Italian coffee with a choice of different cakes every day - peach cake one morning, muffins the next, pancakes on another day - great for those with a sweet tooth! The home made bread is excellent too. Also, the landlady and her son are fluent in English and Italian (they are originally from Scotland) so there is no problem with communication. Their intimate knowledge of the area also helped us immensely - including a visit to a Swiss chocolate factory, a designer factory outlet retail park about 176km away in Serravalle and one in Mendrisio, Swtiz, called Fox Town, and a trip to Lezzano for a banana boat ride. This was great as we would never have found these by ourselves. The family love children and aim to make customers feel at home. You must have a car if you want to reach this destination as like most places in Como, you need a car.

My husband and I spent a week in the beautiful area on Lake Como at the Bed & Breakfast Balconi fiorito. We traveled by car and motorbike on the trailer. We prompt got a garage for our bike, we had a nice apartment. Everything was very comfortable, clean and friendly. We were welcomed warmly, Eleanor is a great hostess, very helpful, gave us tips for our everyday
Tours, recommended us very good restaurants and pizzeria. The best part was the breakfast: it was plentiful, very good and fresh, every day we got wonderful cakes and muffins. Breakfast was served every day on a sun terrace with stunning view to the lake. We will definitely come back here and we will recommend it to everyone.
