“Very nice hotel...but not suitable for small kids”

We received a recommendation for this hotel. Food was delicious, very nice garden, friendly staff, clean accommodation with seaview and with a terrace. There is also a very nice jacuzzi (a reservation needed, but private and beautiful seaview). The way to a nice beach (relatively full but not overcrowded with s

I found three negatives, both related to our small kids. We were two families (together 4 kids in age 4 years, 3 years, 1,5 year and 1 year). The hotel is situated in a hill so there are many stairs so each way to the restaurant with strollers was like a gym exercise.

When we were staying by the pools, we were more nervous from kids potentially imagined in water than a relax on sunbeds.

The last thing we weren´t happy with was time of the dinner in combination with kids. The kids was naturally tired in the evening and we couldn´t enjoy dinners calmly. The dinner starts in time usual for Italy and finishes due to more courses lately what was not compatible with any of our kids. Due to this fact we didn´t enjoy the dinner as we wanted. The suits are in separated houses in the garden so there was no chance to use nurse transmitter.
Moreover, I think that the restaurant is not due to the romancy of this place suitable for small kids who have never eaten all served up food.

I would definitely go back but not with small kids.

Room Tip: Do not book rooms near tu jacuzzi if you don´t want to hear conversations and noice from it.

“Nice place, good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I booked at Gallo Nero in B&B, but after the first dinner there we changed in HB to the quality of the kitchen. Quiet place, kind staff.

“Excellent place for romantic holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2011

Really nice place in the middle of big hill, 15 mins walk distance to pictoresque small sea beach. Very nice compare to all Italian sea resorts what I know. Also quality of cousine is excellent, good food and wines as well.

“Paradise Found”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2011

We had a great time in this beautiful corner of Elba. Room was very clean and with good AC. Big terraces in between fig trees and flowers with sea view. Very peaceful and quite with good food and service.
The walk to the beach is about 10 minutes and it can be a bit steep for those who may have health problems but we loved it.
The beach gets very crowded in high season but you can rent a RIB and find your own corner of paradise.

“Relaxed and easy hotel with amazing garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

We stayed two nights here and found it very easy and relaxing, if I you are over 40 you will LOVE this place. It almost felt like an island cruise for old europeans but in an island town.

The garden which you wander down through to get to the beach is massive and amazing and they produce some of the organic food you eat for the compulsory Dinner/Breakfast. These meals are included in the price of a room which is a little odd but we just went with it. It is kind of refreshing not having to research where to get dinner but there is little in the way of good restaurants in St. Andrea so maybe it's for the best. You get to choose from a few choices for Primi, Secondi and Dolce and the food was not amazing or mindblowing but it was good value. there was a massive selection for the breakfast.

All the staff spoke german, italian, french and not very much english which was a first for us but it made sense when you peeked at the other guests at dinner. They were very lovely especially the Maître d' who was really good at his job.

There are two pools and a spa which was great. The Spa has an amazing view and 'colour therapy' (ie lights that change colour) plus the staff brought us delicious fresh tea made with herbs from the garden. We did not realise the spa was extra so that was a surpirse when we paid but it is worth the 8 euro a pop.

Due to it being September and due to the overflowing grapevines outside the dining room the whole place was overrun with MASSES of wasps of all variety which were a menace at breakfast time. There was also a slightly diseased looking cat which terrorised my girlfriend at breakfast and this coming from a cat lover.

The whole place had a slight 'grandma' feel about it with a well maintained early 80's faded charm, big garden, the other guests (all over 50 it seemed!), flower themes for the room names and artwork on the wall. The room had a good ocean view, air con and a good bathroom and bed. The wifi was not free (in this day and age?!) and you had to sit in the bar to receive it and the signal kept dropping.

I wouldn't really recommend this place to my friends but I would totally recommend my mum and grandparents stay here.
