I stayed at the Hotel Carlton for two nights while on business in Ferrara. The hotel is ideally located in this picturesque town and has really helpful staff. The room I had on the first floor was a very small single room with a narrow tight fitting bathroom. The shower in the bathroom is small and requires delicate footwork to enter and exit due to the location of the toilet and the narrow opening between the shower doors. When in the cubicle you have to be careful you do not do your self an injury on the large soap holder that sticks out from the wall.
The room walls are really thin; I was awoken at 04:00 by my neighbours alarm call then had the pleasure of the toilet orchestra with the accompaniment of the shower quartet!! It was like sleeping by the riverside!!
Although the room and hotel were clean, the room is too small with just enough room between the bed and dressing table. You can only sit on your bed when in the room.
The hotel has a garage to park your car, however, if you are going to use it make sure your car is not much larger than a “compact” or you will have fun!! Access to the internal car park is via a lift then you have to maneuver quite a lot to get your car into your allocated spot., I was lucky as there were only a small number of cars using the garage. However, I can imagine it is fun if all the spaces are occupied. It is a game again when you have to depart, so give yourself time.
Overall the hotel was clean and the staff were really helpful, however, my main concern for a hotel is the sleep quality and the room comfort. On this account the hotel did not match up.
Ferrara is a really nice place with a lot of character and appears to have some great places to eat.
I would avoid this hotel if I go to Ferrara again, choosing to stay closer to Bologna if required.
