Located in Rezzato, a short drive from Brescia, Villa Fenaroli Palace Hotel is stunningly beautiful. It is in a remote location and you really do need a car to get around in if you wish to see some of the area. We were here for just two nights, a taxi taking us from Brescia Rail Station.
The long driveway off Via Mazzini gives sufficient time to appreciate the splendour of this restored former private palace with its pink and white balustraded exterior. Past the two stone lions guarding the gated entrance, into the garden bedded courtyard and impressive doorway leading to the reception. The lobby is contained within the marbled, statued and spacious main corridor.
We were shown to our junior suite facing down the driveway along which we had arrived. The room was spacious and classically laid out - perhaps there was too much space but we like that. The bathroom is a good example of under-utilised space with its bath and separate shower situated at one end of the chamber and sink several metres removed.
We had arrived at 1430 hours and were advised, upon asking to be fed, that the kitchen for the restaurant, Hostaria 1735, attached to the hotel was now closed and all that was on offer was toast from the Amercian Bar. Not acceptable, and after a brief discussion the restaurant was re-opened for us. So, would-be guests please take note of dining times.
The hotel is a marvellous curiosity. It is clearly well set-up to cater for functions, conferences and weddings and I think the individual guest is something of a rarity. There were probably no more than three other couples in the hotel during our time there - we love that privacy and space.
The interior of the hotel is spacious, classical and quiet. Outside, other than the formal courtyard, there is an 18th century loggia or cloister, free standing and completely empty. and a second, smaller gravelled drive at right angles to the main drive leading, well, nowhere except a farm field. There is no rear to the hotel. A small door leads directly onto a street in the village of Rezzato through which the monument and stairs on the hill behind can be reached. We did this and the view was panoramic.
Back in our room after that initial lunch and walk, a bowl of fruit awaited us - compliments of the hotel. A really nice gesture after the difficulties of getting something to eat. Hostaria 1735 is a fabulous restaurant - all silver service in a black-tied, grotto-esque environment. The food and attention on each of our visits there were immaculate.
Breakfast is in the hotel's own large breakfast room and is the usual continental style fare with the options of eggs cooked to your liking.
This hotel is truly magnificent and highly recommended. The attention of the staff was first rate and all of the rooms which we saw were majestic.
Check out the room rates they represent great value. Go there, you'll love it.
