We have been going to Le Terrazze one and sometimes twice a year since 1992, just after they opened. We have traveled just about every mile of the Northern Mediterranean coast, and we are always most happy to come back to Alassio. The restaurants, shopping, and general ambiance of the town is, for us, the best in either the Italian or French Rivieras. The Manthellassi family (our hosts) are charming, caring and extremely competent hoteliers.
The efficiency apartments are slightly spartan, but immaculate, with spacious well lit bathrooms, nicely appointed kitchenettes and plenty of closet space. Those with a small balcony and view of the sea are especially desirable. There are two spacious outside decks on the second and third floor, ideal for sunbathing or having a meal or beverage outside.
I'm reluctant to share this find, but the owners deserve more English speaking guests to compliment the Italian, Swiss and German loyal clients who are regular repeat customers. There are a number of pleasant hotels in Alassio, but this is much more like having your own place; and it is a great value. The owners also have a second place, just a few blocks away from the waterfront: Villa Firenze, another gem.
A complimentary newspaper (only Italian varieties) and some wonderful cornettos (the local version of croissants, filled with jam) will be on your door every morning around 8. While we make our own coffee, we are inclined to then head downstairs and just to the right to have a cappuccino at Rudi's the very mellow local cafe right next door
One word of caution. The tiny street in front of the Residence is only open to service vehicles, but you are permitted to drive there (carefully) and park very briefly to unload. You wouldn't want it any other way, as this is essentially a pedestrian street open to the beach. Parking arrangements can be made through the Residence or you can use public garages and pay lots. There is excellent train service into the town from both East (Milan and Genoa) and West (Nice, Monte Carlo, San Remo, etc).
