We enjoyed our stay at the Alexander Palace in Abano Terme. It's a modern, well appointed hotel. Large lobby. We saw a lot of tour groups staying here, plus our own. It's quite a large hotel and given the amount of rooms, the elevators can be slow around supper and breakfast time. We ended up taking the stairs most of the time.
Rooms: Classic/Elegant decor. Thermostat worked appropriately. Clean. The bathroom was average, the shower stall was a little small.
Location: As Abano Terme isn't that big, the hotel was centrally located and easy to find. We didn't think much about the town and we are a younger couple. Most of the people we saw were older and there for the spas. We didn't think the town had much of a night life. We were based here for sightseeing in Venice as part of a group.
Lobby: For some reason the bar area was closed in Aug. while we were there. It would have been nice to have a drink at the bar with guests we were travelling with.
Restaurant: Quite a large and fancy looking place with painted walls. Very nice. The service was quite fast and good. The standard tourist menu for the tour groups wasn't the best. There were quite a few comments from people on our tour that they didn't get enough to eat and that it wasn't the best.
Breakfast was a gong show. Way too many people for a buffet table. They ran out of almost everything. The machine coffee and juice left much to be desired for.
Pool: Although it looked like they had a nice pool. It opened late in the morning and closed around 6 pm!!! If you are touring around or obligated with a tour group that means you won't be swimming in the evening. TIP: next door you can access a public pool complex for about 11 Eur. Remember that everybody must wear a swimming cap, it's the rule for some reason.
All in all, it was a clean and comfortable place but I wish there was a little more happening in the town. The restaurant could have offered a little more in terms of the quality of food.
