We arrived to be given a key and told there were leaflets for various attractions in the hallway. Shown to the room on the 1st floor. This is a proper 'old fashioned' B&B - very chintzy but that isn't bad in itself.
Our room was crammed full of furniture - double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, tea and coffee making facilities on a shelf and an en suite bathroom. There was barely any room to move down each side of the bed.
There was a dead fly hanging from the lampshade. There was dust around the edges of the room. There were two dead flies on the windowsills. There were other people's hair (not from their head!) in the shower. I took photographs of all the nasties, but who wants to look at dead flies on Trip Advisor!!
We decided to give the benefit of the doubt - maybe our room got missed on the cleaning list! We spoke to the owners about the hairs in the shower and asked if they could clean it. No apology was given nor wa sthere any acknowledgement that actually this might not be the nicest thing to face when walking into a bathroom. We were looked at as if we were mad!!
We returned later that evening to find that the shower had been swished round with cold water. There were still hairs up the sides of the shower. There were still dead flies all over the place. The shower head was grimy and covered in old shower gel. By this time, it was too late to check out and get another room so we decided to keep our socks on and grin and bear it.
On turning down the covers, we noticed a couple of hairs under the pillow. At this point, we ended up sleeping on our own towels on top of the bed. We walked round teh room in our shoes and didn't want to put anything on any of the surfaces.
The next morning - we wanted to get out ASAP. We spoke to the owner, saying we were checking out a day early. He asked were we not having breakfast. That was it. No 'How was your stay'? or 'Was everything alright after we spoke to you'? Nothing.
As a result, I left a review similar to this on the booking agents site, eviivo. It has disappeared - apparently Mount House has used a 'credit' to remove it. That says everything really.
At £52.50 a night I can deal with dated and chintzy interiors - it's really rather quaint. What I won't stand for is uncleanliness and a complete lack of customer service - avoid!
