“What a Pleasure”

We arrived to a warm welcome and beautiful clean house. It was like going into someones home. We was shown our room whick was cosy and immaculate tea and coffee making facilities were there and it was very cosy and homely. The decor was chosen with care and everything matched and was pleasing to the eye.
Maggie and Graham were delightful couple and really make excellent hosts and enjoy what they do and nothing is to much trouble for them.
The food is ordered the night before so that the breakfasts are cooked fresh which were beautiful in everyway. It is like stepping into someones own home with a fantastic welcome.
This B & B is to be praised and recommended to anyone visiting the island. We will try and get back later in the season and certainly will be trying to stay with these lovely people
10/10 for everything....

From the moment that we arrived to the moment that we left we had a fantastic stay. We were mde to feel very welcome. And were taken care of. The entire hotel is spotless, well furnished draft free. Very warm and inviting. Nice touch. Tray of tea, we could have had coffee or an alcoholic drink on our arrival. Our room was replenished with tea/coffee and cleaned every day. Banh up to date local whats on leaflets available. Breakfast. Fantastic. And lots of it. Come and go as you please. No late night noisey guests. The owners are in their element. Very proffessional and good at what they are doing. i.e looking after guests.

“Pristinely kept and well located, but small room and bathroom.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

Overall a conveniently located, pristinely clean and tidy hotel. Margi was extremely welcoming and couldn't be more helpful, but Graeme was somewhat brusque in his welcome, making us feel like teenagers, with his curt instructions and pointing out the do's and don't (like wiping feet), but he had new carpets, so I guess he was somewhat protective.

The rooms had every item that one could want during a stay, including, toiletries, soft towelling dressing gowns, tea and coffee making facilities, TV with freesat and free WiFi, but the room was incredibly small and became quite irritating as we tried to live in it for a three night stay. The bathroom, I'm sorry to say, although beautifully new and clean, was impossibly small and we're not large people, by any means. The shower seemed squashed in and it was impossible to get a comfortable position under the flow. Getting out of the bath/shower was very difficult due to the lack of space and I have the bruises to prove it. I appreciate that they've tried to pack in as much as they can, but this did detract considerably from the overall comfort of the room, which was a shame. Also, on the last evening and morning, the room was very cold with the radiator not really getting more than lukewarm. To be fair we didn't bother Graeme about it as it was our last night and morning, so didn't give them a change to resolve it, which I'm sure they would have done.

The breakfasts were very good and plentiful, but due to the size of property, this had to be shared in a dining room on a table set for 6 with other guests, which is not my preferred way, as I don't feel very social in the mornings. But that's just my preference, I mention it here only so others can choose for themselves, whilst fully informed.

I would recommend Clarence House to others, but not for more than a 1 or 2 night stay and with a few caveats.

Gosh! - I am so sorry I came over as being gruff and schoolmasterish.I must have been having a bad hair day, because this is not my usual sunny nature!
I agree the rooms are smallish but it must be remembered that we are a B and B not a hotel and as such operating from what was once a private house originally: practically everyone accepts this and the fact that we do our very level best to provide all the little extras many don't, hopefully makes up for that as I think nearly all reviews show.

“Friendly, clean and nice location”

We really enjoyed our stay at this B&B. Graeme and Margi were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was very clean, with fresh towels and bottled water daily. We stayed in the twin room which was small but cosy. There was a good choice for breakfast and the food was lovely. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.

“Superb hospitality - definitely recommended”

Graeme and Margi are superb hosts. The room was clean and tidy, service immaculate, and the breakfast outstanding. I stayed in the twin room and each day after exploring the island we returned to find fresh bottles of water, clean(ed) tea cups and new biscuits in the room. If you are travelling to the Isle of Wight you should definitely consider staying here.

Negatives: Bathroom is small and carpeted.
