Fantastic hotel, very welcoming by Kevin, Rose & of course Chris the waiter. We have stayed here 3yrs running, this year my in laws stayed in the Alverston suite which was lovely & we were in the adjacent room both with balconies. The rooms both very comfortable, ours had 2rooms with kids in 1 room with bunk beds own TV very popular with the kids & us!! TV for us too with Tea & coffee making facilities with lots of biscuits which we had to get in there first before the kids!! Plenty of fresh towels.
Lovely breakfast which saw us through till tea time, plenty of choice.
There is a very relaxed atmosphere at the hotel & nothing is ever a problem. My brother in law who is mentally disabled had a seizure just as we were supposed to be coming for breakfast & Kevin said not to worry he would cook my in laws breakfast & take it up for them, it just makes things so much easier in life when you have someone thats thoughtful & understanding.
You cant get much better than this location with the beach on the doorstep & buses that run frequently to the top of town where you can then get other buses else where. We travelled from Brighton to Shanklin by public transport & it was so easy .
Looking forward to next year dont want to say to much more or there might not be any room when we want to go again but then again we have been penciled in already for next year just in case!!
The Adelson Families
My wife and I visited the Esplanade Hotel in Shanklin for five nights in August 2011. On arrival we were shown to our room (no 4) which was spacoius, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The room had a large king size bed, a three piece sofa/chairs and a great balcony overlooking the sea. The room was a great place to relax after a day out on the island and was so much more than just somewhere to sleep.
Kevin the proprietor looked after us extremely well during our visit as did the young waiters at breakfast. On that note the food was nicely cooked and very tasty, indeed a diet is now badly needed after five full english breakfasts!!
All in all we are looking forward to returning to the Esplanade again next year.
Great B&B on the seafront with a lovely view. We were a small family group and stayed in the Alverstone room and family suite, both having a great terrace next to each other with wonderful seaview. Unfortunately, the weather was not the best during our stay but certainly would be excellent when the weather is nice.
Kevin, the owner, and his wife were very warm and welcoming. They were very helpful with any area questions and interested in hearing about our day out and just chatting in general.
The only issues with rooms were the beds were quite narrow and rooms could use a minifridg, at least the Alverstone room. Though we had a small bottle of champagne we requested they put in the hotel fridg while we were out and retrieved it when we got back, no problems. They were very accommodating.
If we happen to go back to the Isle of Wight in the future, we would not hesitate to stay here again. We very much enjoyed our stay at this B&B and the Isle of Wight.
Having a love of the Isle of Wight it seemed an obvious choice to spend my 50th Birthday weekend there with my family. On arriving at the Esplanade Hotel I realised what a fantastic choice I had made. The owner Kevin makes you feel welcome immediately and both he and his wife could not do enough to make your stay enjoyable. My friend had spoken to him on the phone about putting flowers, a balloon and champagne in our room and he had personally gone to the florist to arrange this. This I think you will find is more than most Hotel owners would do. On being shown our room we were pleasantly surprised to find the room had been recently decorated and now contains a very modern leather suite were you can sit and enjoy the stunning views. The balcony is a big plus with comfy seats. The rest of my family stayed in the room next door which meant that we had the entire balcony to ourselves. There was a great choice for breakfast and it was very well cooked and came promptly but without feeling rushed. The two young men that took our orders at breakfast were very efficient and attentive. My family and I had a fantastic weekend and would not think twice about returning to the Esplanade Hotel and would recommend it highly to anyone.
