“Friendliest and most welcoming hotel we have stayed in”

My wife and I together with our two sons (23 & 20) stayed here for a week and didn't want to leave. Bernie and Lesley are very lovely people with a warmth that makes up for any shortfalls the hotel has. Bearing in mind this is a very old building that needs a lot to be done to it ( as does any old building ), it is comfortable to stay in. Yes there are lots of steps but there again so do most of the hotels around there due to the fact it is a hilly area. Nothing was too much trouble for them to do for us, including varying off the menu when we asked. All the food is home cooked to an excellent standard, so much so that we all put on extra pounds and never left the table hungry. A nice touch was when we asked for mugs of tea instead of cups Bernie couldn't bring them out fast enough to us. The location is superb, close to the beach, town and pubs with breath taking sea views from most of the rooms. Will definitely go back there next time we visit the Island

Very nicely situated, made to feel welcome and able to come and go as u please, nice food and and very punctual the sort of atmosphere u dont have to pv any airs and graces. If u want to dress up for dinner then find a star rated hotel, me and my family enjoyed it there,

“This hotel may offer cheap rates , but it does not offer value for money!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

This hotel takes "no frills" concept to a whole new level! The room clearly wasn't inspected before my arrival as there were hairs in the bath, the tv was unplugged(I couldn't find the socket as it was hidden) and the flush wasn't working properly. There was no telephone in the room, no hairdryer, no iron. To get hold of the receptionist was tricky as the reception is not manned. The entrance of the hotel looks a bit like a haunted house: dried up garden with cracked and chipped steps. The hotel and the room looked exceptionally dated however my issue was the fact that this hotel offered no value whatsover for my money. My room was on the ground floor with no net curtains so in the morning I had to have the heavy curtains closed otherwise the opposite properties could see into my room or anyone in the garden for that matter. The restaurant and bar looked dark and quite bleak looking.I went to Shanklin for a mini break and get away, after one day I decided to leave as there was nothing relaxing about my stay in the room I was given.

The only three positive things I can say about my stay is the location of the hotel which is close to the beach and to the town centre and sights, also I love the feeling of sleeping on freshly starched bedsheets(this is at every hotel) and taking a long relaxing bath, but the last two things are things I generally enjoy in any hotel and not specific to this hotel only. The owner was friendly, but I'm afraid in this instance, all the friendliness in the world wouldn't make up for the substandard room I had to stay in.
Will I be returning? No.I think I overpaid, considering what I got in return. I would only recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a cheap room to sleep(and nothing else) and doesn't mind practical issues that most of us would be bothered with. This hotel desparately needs someone to bring it up to date and run it like a proper hotel instead of running it like a cheap and nasty substandard hostel.

We stayed at the Curragmore hotel for 5 nights in July 2009 on a half board option . It was warm and sunny (on the beach every day) . The room we had was large with a very good sea view good sized ensuite bathroom with bath but no shower . The service we recieved from the owners was excellent and very friendly . The meals served were of a good quality all home cooked . The hotel stands in a lofty position overlooking shanklin bay ..it is close to the beach and shanklin old town . we had a good stay
