The minute you walk through the door you are met with a sumptious, welcoming red carpet and very friendly staff. The public rooms are sympathetically decorated, retaining all the lovely features of a bygone age.
We booked by a Travelzoo deal, which was excellent value including the ferry, and had a standard room in the 'newer' wing that was clean, & well furnished & equipped with comfortable beds; although the walls were thin & the single glazed windows ran with condensation in the very cold weather. The extra night added on was also reasonably priced.
Breakfasts were excellent, but the included evening meal on the first night was not so good. The staff both front of house & in the restaurant are excellent and so obliging.
There is no lift and being an old property, there are many steps - small cases or bags are advised. It is very dog-friendly, and includes doggy treats in the lounge, along with the human biscuits!
Definitely worth a try!
