“Disappointing,overpriced stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

Arrived at hotel and were not expected. Had to call mobile number to be let in. Bin had not been cleared out. Very small en-suite to double room.Felt very rushed at breakfast as x1 staff complaining about huge work load. Only cash accepted and no receipt offered or received. Only positive aspects of stay was very warm welcome by Alex and location. Certainly not a 5* hotel.

“Too expensive, too little attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

The actual room was nice, but too expensive for what it was. and at £165 a night I expected much more. We stayed for two nights but had to make up our own room in between - no one came in to make our bed etc. Breakfast was a let-down - cheap ingredients and not very good cereals for adults. I understand that a staff-member had quit earlier that week, which meant that it was terribly understaffed and there was too much for the one staff member there to do. The complementary drinks tray - while a very nice idea in principle - actually meant two bottles of Echo Falls wine (an Iceland speciality in my experience - about £3 a bottle!). It all seemed a little slap-dash for my liking, even though it is a charming building. The penthouse is only half of the top floor, not the whole thing. The bed was very comfy. Rather than pay more to (hope to) get luxury next time which doesn't arise, I'll pay less and go somewhere else.

“Great location - poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

Upmarket B&B in central location - good size rooms and relaxed atmosphere. Perhaps too relaxed for over £100 per night, so dont expect a great level of service.

A couple of examples email one person for booking but another to check availablitiy, you have to call them back for updates when they should be calling you at that nightly rate. Pickup's from the train station advertised on the website - yes but Michael the owner is all to quick to tell you dont do them anymore and that they need to update the website - a year later is still there! If you want internet access you need to get the elusive username and password from Penny - it exists but you are told its so hard to setup you know! Also other information on the website is not all correct - so if you really want to go best give them a call again and again and again...................

Shame as its really a great place and location which with the right service would warrant the price for somehting that would be special.

“Good- but priced too high”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2009

The bakehouse is a very nice guest house. It is clean and very nicely furnished. However, it is not worth the cost per night, especially when compared to other places in Weymouth. It is by far one of the most expensive places in Weymouth- but is not one of the nicest.

Internet is not avaliable- despite being advertised.

The bathrooms have sensor lights- which although are environmentally friendly- are ridiculous. The lights go off after about 5 minutes and you end up in the shower or on the toilet in the pitch black.

We were also asked only to use one towel- when you are paying over £100 a night- you do not expect to be asked to only use one towel. We also had problems with the bathroom door in the suite, which if closed became stuck. We had to leave the door ajar when using the bathroom!

Also, when staying away I like to be given my key and then left to fend for myself. The proprietor was slightly too intrusive in his conversation.

In general- Good- but too expensive and could do better.

“Perfect in Every Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2008

This is a fantastic, immaculate B&B. Hosts, Penny & Michael extremely welcoming and have really picked up on what is expected for a home from home atmosphere. We felt like long lost friends rather than guests. The place has been completely refurbushed and is clean and warm, furnished in creams and whites throughout. Complimentary drinks and fruit are available every evening in the beautiful lounge. Michael is an excellent cook and cooked wonderful breakfasts selected from a wide ranging menu. Breakfast times are flexible and worked around the guests needs rather than the hosts. The position of this B&B is also spot on, just a few steps from the harbour front and the shopping centres. Free private parking another added bonus! An all round perfect spot, well done to Mike & Penny who also have the Letter Box across the road. We have been to several B&Bs and hotels, this is now the top of our list. Fantastic!!
