I'm up in Lerwick for work frequently and travel on my own. I have stayed in almost every guest house/hotel in town and I have to say that The Fort Charlotte Guest House is my personal favourite. It is spotlessly clean, cosy, central, the breakfast is awesome with loads of choices - and with "real" fruit salad (not tinned, as you so often see!!).
Each time I've stayed I've noticed fresh colour of paint/new pictures/new throws and cushions/new bed, so it's good to see that they're always upgrading and really care about their property.
The owners are lovely, and as I'm quite private, I like that they'll let you eat your breckie in peace etc but I've heard them chat away to other guests and are really knowledgable and helpful with all things local.
Definately the place to stay in Lerwick, but call early, as they've been fully booked quite a few times I've tried them. Says a lot I think!
