You can almost imagine you hear music in your dreams when you know Benjamin Britten was born in this house & spent his childhood here! However, music aside we wondered what this hotel had to offer - surfice to say for a b.& b., it has everything. We were greeted at the door by the cheery proprietor who helped us with our luggage to the Mozart Suite & explained security arrangements & breakfast hours etc.The room was spacious with a large bed, comfortable sofa together with tea/coffee making facilities. It is situated at the front of the house, overlooking a road, car park & with views of the sea. What makes this room so special is that the sun rises over the sea & pours into the room first thing in the morning.
The bathroom has a modern shower with power jets which is great but the only minus side found was in here & it was the carpet which is old and very tatty. Breakfasts are excellent,
cooked by Anne Cerisca with a good choice of menu and her husband, Colin, carries out his duties as front of house for which he is ideally suited with his wit & great sense of humour -
without a doubt he is a gem! Car parking is restricted on the premises but there is a car park opposite so there are no problems. We compared this trip with nearly four weeks spent touring France & without a doubt we didn't find any b.& b. accommodation to match Britten House in value,food or friendliness.
