“Nice little out of the way pub.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed a night here recently with some friends and can highly recommend The Old Plough - a nice little place, out of the way in Rutland.

The pub itself is great - very cosy, and the staff and other patrons there were all extremely friendly. We arrived quite late and were still got a warm reception.

Yes, the walls are a little thin, but a couple more pints in the pub and you won't even notice.

Breakfast wasn't anything fancy - should a fry up ever be? - but was filling and delicious.

Overall a good experience, and if we're in the hood again, we'll be back.

We stayed 3 days over the august bankholiday and found both the pub and its accomadation to be ideal. The food served in the plough was great , the service too was of ahigh standard.Situated in a lovely village close to rutland water, with good walks around the village it all made for a great weekend.

“What a find!”

Found this little gem on the Doggie Pubs Website as we were looking for a pub with rooms where we could take our little Pug & not have to worry about it. The Old Plough turned out to be a completely 'dog friendly' pub, with brilliant accomodation - once again - dog friendly.

We stayed for 3 nights, in Room 4 - not huge but certainly large enough for us & the Pug - at very good rates. The price included full freshly cooked breakfast, - & tea, coffee, hot chocolate & lots of biscuits in room, - plus all the shampoo, shower, soap etc in big bathroom. Plenty of hot water with a superb powerful shower. The rooms are accessed by stairs very close to the Car Park, & independently from the Pub which made it very easy to take the dog in & out as we needed to.

We do like the window open at nights & there is a little noise from traffic going in & out of the village, although this seemed to be mostly at 'bedtime' & in the early morning so it didnt really bother us much.

We booked the room by telephone direct with the pub/hotel, & we got a better deal than going through a booking site on line.

We ate in the bar each evening with the dog at our feet & were made to feel very much at home by the very friendly staff. All the delicious food including the lovely breakfast is freshly cooked to order, & nothing is too much trouble. Lots to choose from on all menus (bar snacks menu, restaurant menu & also a vegetarian menu & not to forget the 'Specials' Board!). You can personalise your choice of meal - e.g. if you prefer potatoes to chips, then just ask! The restaurant where we ate breakfast is light & airy & tastefully furnished..

There are tables & chairs in the garden, & more on the patio - (with bowls of water for the dogs!) - & plenty of car parking space.

We will return - with or without the Pug! We can't wait to work our way through some more of the menu.

“Brilliant surprise 60th birthday weekend”

We have just got back from 3 nights in the Old Plough. The weekend was booked on the internet as a surprise and we were not disappointed. The staff were brilliant, very friendly and couldnt do enough for us.
The food was excellent. Breakfast was delicious as was the excellent bar and restaurant food. The menu was extensive and it was difficult to choose as there were so many great sounding dishes.
The rooms were light, airy and very comfortable. Overall a brilliant weekend. My Mum had a brilliant surprise and we would like to thank everyone at the hotel.

Room Tip: Excellent food and friendly staff.

“Fantastic food, great service, nice rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Me, my wife and my boss + family stayed here last weekend as we were attending a work related even in a nearby town.

We were allowed to check in very early which was very helpful as we had to attend an even in the afternoon.

we stayed in room 4 which was a good size double room. It was a converted building so had loads of character.

The bedroom was comfortable and we had a huge choice of biscuits with our tea and coffee :) The bathroom was a bit random in terms of a big space but only a shower, but this was definatley not a negative and the shower was very hot.

For what we paid and compared to other similar types of accomodation this is a good standard.

We ate in the pub both for evening meal and breakfast. Both were fantastic and a very high standard.

The service was great too which just adds to the experience.

If you are ever in the area and do not stay at the hotel i would highly recommend a meal there. I will be definatley going there again
