Firstly I must say that none of us golf, not one bit, so we cannot speak to the golf course other than to describe it as fresh and green, very beautiful, frequented by happy looking gentlemen in smart clothes. It had a very nice looking club house with an outdoor upper floor deck and cafe overlooking the links. But as to whether or not golfing there is good we cannot say. We chose the Springs because we wanted to be in the countryside on the Ridgeway, we wanted king size beds, in suite baths with nice showers with good hot water, spacious rooms, patios overlooking a lake where we could sit in the evening with a bottle of wine and some cheese and chat, a restaurant and bar on site so after hiking the Ridgeway and walking several hours to and from Wallingford we could shower and relax over dinner without having to drive at night or do any further walking. All of these things it did fabulously. We wanted wifi in the main spaces and internet of some sort in the room at least a cable to hook up our personal wifi, and while slow was available, the speed would have been frustrating in the city but for our relaxing country leg of the trip it was fine. We wished the fireplace in the lounge would have been lit and they may have done it for us but we didn't ask since it was warm and cozy without it. The hotel is somewhat funky and sprawling, like it's grown over time and in some ways feels like it's stuck in time too, but that's the ambiance we were looking for, to step away from the rush of the city, to go somewhere more charming and rural feeling than glossy and new. The front desk was very helpful, pointed us to the Perch and Pike which had amazing fish and chips, the best of the trip, very fresh, great service, friendly locals to chat with, yummy beers on tap. Things like Agatha Christie's grave site and the Uffington chalk horse within easy drives, and beautiful several hour walks into Wallingford city centre made this leg of our trip very memorable.
