“Excellent stay - strongly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Stayed for one night. Excellent accommodation, spotless, warm and welcoming. The Manor was overflowing but Chris just took it all in her stride and hopitality was faultless.
We shall be back again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cloisters - an excellent self contained apartment with superb facilities.

“Friendly atmosphere in a lovely old Manor House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We were on our way back from Scotland to home in Switzerland and stayed, with our young child, in the nursery room; a trip back in time for those of us who are over 18! It was very comfortable and clean, and the attached shower room was both efficient and fun.
We had continental breakfast as well as full English breakfast, and both very good. Christine goes out of her way to find out what your preferences are, and is a perfect hostess.
It is nice, in this extremely fast changing world, to know that there are still places where traditional values count. We shall be back.

“Lovely place, great breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

My friend and I were in the blue (twin) room, which was very comfortable and has a lovely view of the front garden. Christine, the host, was incredibly helpful, supplying maps and bus schedules and even pick-ups and drop-offs (since we had no car).

The breakfast was delightful; everything is sourced locally (including from the host's own garden) and it is clear that Christine takes great pride, as well she should, in caring about these sorts of details.

The only warning I would give is that not having a vehicle means you have to walk a distance (20 minutes to Ewelme or 25 to Benson) to get lunch or dinner. I had a bad cold while I was there and so the walking felt a little daunting.

On the whole, though, this B&B is a great choice. Thanks, Christine!

“We won't be back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

The blue room was a lovely room and bathroom, we couldn't fault it but the Old Nursery was a children's bedroom still and hadn't been customised for guests. It was a bit dingy and dark and had a strange set-up with two doors in the wet room. The breakfast was in a dark, cold room and completely lacked imagination as there were very few cereals to choose from and we ordered the continental breakfast, which was just hard, thin pieces of toast. The helicopters started landing in the strip next door at 10.00pm also, which was a nuisance.

Room Tip: The blue and beige rooms are the best.

I appreciate the guests could not fault the blue room - thank you.
Comments on Old Nursery. - the second door in the bathroom is a fire exit. It neither affects guests privacy or comfort.
Decoration - each of the 3 guest bedrooms are individually decorated and furnished to reflect the period and history of the room. Each room is clearly shown on the web followed by a detailed description. If a guest books by phone I spend some time discussing the room requirements. As the name suggests 'the Old Nursery 'has been a children's room since C18th century and offers a large comfortable family room.and children delight in the Old Dolls house. It is not meant to be like a hotel room. This room was requested because a shower was preferred.
Dining room - This is C12th and as shown on the web the colour and furnishings are appropriate to the period. I am sorry they found all the C12th features uninteresting.
Heating - During the summer the main central heating is switched off however there are independent heaters in all rooms used by guests. and underfloor heating in 2 of the bathrooms. Following the review I am now making a point of checking that guests are warm enough. Had the guest let me know they were cold I could have resolved the matter in seconds. From mid September onwards the gas central heating is on plus a large wood burning stove is lit at every breakfast.
Breakfast - a buffet style continental breakfast followed by a full cooked breakfast is offered to all guests (low season a discount is offered on rooms with continental breakfast only). T he continental part of the breakfast consists of any combination of 7 cereals (3 organic, 1 special diet.) Organic natural yogurt, bowls of dried fruits (figs, prunes etc) fresh fruit to include bananas and fruits in season, fruit juice , wide selection of teas, coffee or hot chocolate and of course toast. (medium cut waitrose wholemeal) and a wide range of preserves. This can be substantiated both by the 2 ladies who work here each day plus the guests staying in and around this time.
In conclusion I would encourage guests to speak to me directly if there is a problem as I will be more than happy to resolve it wherever possible. In this case I could have moved the guests to the cream room and made sure they had adequate heating had I known .

“Superb comfort in an Old English Manor House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

The four of us stayed here for one night on our cycle tour over the late May Bank holiday. What a find! The rooms, we had the Cream Room and the Nursery are of grand proportions and have everything you could wish. Loads of little touches here and there make it feel like a home from home. The Nursery has an en suite wet room with a fanstaic shower. The house itself is amazing and there are beautiful gardens to sit in and admire. We had bikes that were safe and sercure and there was even a track pump on hand to help out when we needed professinoal assistance. The food and drinks are organic and first class, but do not be late for breakfast on a Sunday, else the lovely but formidable Christine will let you know! Breakfast was marvellous and the Crown pub in the village amere 10 mins walk which has a great evening menu and plenty of choice. All in all very smart, clean and certainly a cut above many places elsewhere. Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the Nursery if you like a shower
