Situated in the picturesque centre of the town, the Old Hall Hotel is not a luxury hotel but has bags of history and character.It is opposite the Pavilion Gardens and close to the old spa baths (due for renovation) and Palace Theatre. We had a very comfortable and warm stay (the snow was coming down outside in The Square). Food in the restaurant is excellent quality and value for money, with some interesting dishes. Local beers are featured in the bars. Looking forward to a return visit.

Stayed for one night at the Old Hall in Buxton. I have to stay I am a fan of luxury modern hotels (with a spa is even better!), but this gem of a hotel really changed my mind.
It has a really lovely atmosphere, and the rooms are just great. I had a double room, which had lots of space. and my friend had a four poster bed, which was really great! The rooms were lovely and warm, which was perfect as it was -6 outside. The rooms were clean and had everything you needed. The only thing it did not have was an iron, so I called reception, and one was at my door within 2 minutes...I usually have to wait over an hour in the Hilton!
The one small complaint I have is that the bar at the back of the hotel was a little chilly. I had to keep my coat on, so finished my drink rather quickly!
Breakfast was great...a great selection. I had an enormous bowl of porridge, and my friend had what looked like a great 'full English'.
Would I stay here again...absolutely!
NB: Loved the little touches, like the teddy on your bed and the Buxton water in your room.

We were offered the room 'Mary's Bower' for a special price (74 quid) as it was mid-winter and mid-week. This was a fantastic deal and we thoroughly enjoyed our night in this beautiful and historic room. The hotel itself is slightly tatty but not too bad, and overall very charming, and its location is as good as it gets for Buxton. One of our favourite memories of our 9 days in England. I'd definitely stay there again.

Please note - this review is only of the Wine Bar. Had a meal in the Wine Bar with high hopes, having read the reviews. Pork was dry and very overcooked and the burger was worse than any high street takeaway, plate was bulked out with a huge bread roll and mostly red onion salad. Was not asked during the meal if everything was alright (they weren't that busy), and when plates were cleared away we told them our thoughts. They took 10% off the bill but we heard raised voices when the waitress went back in to the kitchen! Could not recommend - cheapish, but not even worth the £30 paid for the meals and two drinks. Really disappointed.
