“Friendly staff, lovely pool and close to the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

The travel company moved us here at the last minute due to our hotel being over booked, we were really glad they did as the hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, Dassia itself we really liked, having a lovely little line of restaurants away from the main road on the beach front and it's only around 8 or 9 miles from Corfu town mean transfers are short as well as the local blue bus service only taking around 20 mins to get you either way. Although the hotel itself is basic, the rooms are clean and had a nice balcony as well as AC. I would not hesitate to go back to the Palma Beach for another holiday.

“July 2007”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2007

Family holiday in july 2007, Rooms very basic, but clean. On arrival no bed or cot for young child despite having booked for him. Very tight with electric, turned the lift of at every opportunity, being on the 3rd floor & having a young child with pushchair this made things difficult. Brochure states having pool bar serving drinks, food etc, this bar looks so derelict like it has not been open in 10 years. The pool was very dirty, around the walls, very scummy. The outside of the pool was a dangerous area, no tiles just broken concrete covered with an axminster carpet in some areas. Not enough sun lounges to accomodate the guests.
Staff could have been a little more friendly and helpful, it appeared everything was too much trouble. Despite having paid for air conditioning in our package, the reception still try to charge you when you go for the remote on your first day, so stick to your guns DONOT PAY any extra as it states in brochure all rooms air conditioned, and does not say payable locally.
The bars and tavernas in Dassia, were all ok although not a lot to do for young groups.

“Basic hotel, nice pool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2007

Booked a cheap week here very last minute on the web. The rooms are basic, bathrooms a bit grotty (down to the fixtures not the cleaners). Pool area is in a garden set behind the hotel and good for lazy days (you have to nip to the shop next door if you need supplies - they do cheap water and beer - there's no bar at the hotel during the day). Some rooms overlook the bar (of course our room had to be the closest to it) and they gradually pump up the volume on the stereo until around 1am. Breakfast not particularly inspiring and I gave up bothering. You generally get what you pay for and this was one of the cheapest holidays ever so I mustn't be too harsh! Discover the beach - there are more eateries down there. The cooking (and price) at 'Bamboo', turning right as you go out of the hotel, was great. The take away grill (left out of the hotel) does a nice gyros pitta for a couple of euros. Go to Aqualand for a great day out. Corfu town is also good - history, shopping and cafes. Nb. the clothes shop next door, 'Bella', wouldn't refund me a four-day old item which was faulty. She's let the side down there, most shops and restaurants in Dassia were friendly. Shame that spoilt my last day there.

“Great value, little complaints...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2007

I stayed with my girlfriend at Palma Beach recently (2nd-9th July) and was our first time in Corfu.

Booked through Hayes Travel so including flights worked out pretty well although not keen on First Choice's legroom (never been more cramped on a plane) but that's nothing to do with this.

Hotel is situated between Ipsos and Corfu Town with Ipsos being a twenty minute walk and Corfu Town a 25-30min bus journey (1.10eur, taxi - 20eur). Beach is a five minute walk max away and decent restaurants and bars situated along it as well as by the hotel so you couldn't do better. However, the beach was very quiet in most bars + restaurants, which ruined it atmosphere wise as they had the potential to be great places - however, this could be due to it still being early season possibly. If you walk a minute or two right when leaving the hotel you'll come across much more lively bars and restaurants as they're situated near larger hotels and all are good value.

Opposite the hotel also is a nice bakery and a local excursion operator who will sort you out if you don't have a rep. If you lack a vehicle then no worries as 1 minute walk away is where coaches that go to wherever your excursion is stop, however, on our two occassions of using them they were 15-20mins late as I'm guessing the time we were given was given to everyone so don't fear that you've missed it!

Ipsos is a fairly safe 20 minute walk away, however, I'd only really recommend it for people going out to party as most restaurants are average and offer any food except one, which is the first you'll come across looking over the sea, however, 2 minutes away from Ipsos centre so was quiet when we ate there. Bar wise though it's great, we had fun in Bar 52 with good cocktails, tv, music, pool, arcade machines, air hockey..
Beach wise Ipsos is similar to Dasia (both are pebble beaches), when we went (About 1pm for an hour or two) it was very quiet, however, could be because it was rather windy that day or because most people there stay in till then nursing hangovers!

Corfu Town offers a fair bit to do with a new and old fort - we went up the old fort and gives you great views for photos + we showed them one student card and were both let in for free despite the 2eur student price, which was good! You can walk fairly aimlessly and find y ourself in the local part of Corfu town if you want photos of real Greece and it's easy to find your way back. There's also the usual tourist shops too.
Restaurant wise I was a bit surprised - we either missed an area somehow or it is fairly poor. Most were similar serving food you could get in most restaurants, some at high prices and one thing to be prepared for is the waiters who will stand by the menu when you're reading and tell you what's "great", be your best mate until you say you'll maybe come back later when you get a nasty glare! However, there is one great restaurant at good prices too, which we were told by someone who just ate there it was the "best meal i've ever had.. and i know you can say that with food" and have to agree that it was very good - to find it when walking from the bus station towards the bar area by the cricket field take a right before you get the area, you'll see up a side street two restaurants.

Now for the hotel!
The people working there were perfectly friendly and helpful, however, a bit of a language barrier with one or two but nothing that caused problems.
The pool was good despite me previously reading from someone on tripadvisor it was covered in dirt. Was a good size and seemed perfectly clean to me. As for the pool bar their website tells you about - there is none, there is a small shack/building that looks like it could be one but was always closed and didn't look like it was open recently. As for someone who said it was "dilapidated" - sounds a little extreme.. just looked like a typical greek building but unused.

The hotel bar opens from 7pm and tends to stay open til 1am with music that seems fairly loud but i always seemed to forget all about it whenever I went to sleep before then! The only sound complaint I had was one night when some people came back in the middle of the night and were quite noisy.. can't blame a hotel for that though.

Roomwise - could have done with some more drawers but managed ok. Bed's were fine, air conditioner is great (and a life saviour!)
The bathroom, however, unfortunately presented a much different image to what it really was. You could see squashed mosquitoes on the walls in places, in one case one that was crushed had a lot of blood in it and this was still on the wall. The mirror holder on closer inspection was cracked in several places and looked quite old. The shower also had no curtain, which was quite annoying as this meant the floor was wet for the rest of the night unless you left your window open (which mosquitoes would be waiting for). However, as I said that paints a different image - bathroom in reality was fine, no toilet problems, sink was fine and clean - same for shower - just could have done with a shower curtain or something, however, from my past experiences of greek hotels - they like to get their floors wet from the shower!

The breakfast buffet is basic, bread with jam, cheese and others, cereals and peaches + orange cordial and tea + coffee. If you're picky about variation in breakfast you can always go to the bakery across the road

The mosquitoes leads me onto another point about Dasia, which our rep told us had got much worse recently - which is the mosquitoes will get you no matter how much spray you use, what plugs you put in your room.. She recommended Savlon, saying out of all things it seemed to do the best job against them. Therefore, I'd recommend to try keep any windows shut and just use the air conditioner as mosquitoes will try and get you.

Just for anyone's info who's coming from the airport - a taxi cost us about 24EUR from the hotel so if the driver asks you for more he's probably ripping you off.

Overall it's not a five class hotel, however, if I wanted that I would have had to pay much much more! If I was going back I'd happily stay at Palma Beach for the price - great value and location was brilliant.
