“2 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2007

The apartments are rated as 4 star by Thompson but are 2 star in my opinion. This is due to the low standards of decor, equipment and maintenance.
Some problems
Leaking water pipes- we had to move out of our apartment
Stains on walls
Cracked floor tiles around pool
old and stained baths
no laundry facilities or irons
Good points
Near to beach, and to resort
Overall the holiday was good, but due mainly to the Corfu sunshine!

“Not so sure....”

Arrived at the apartments and was left to struggle with luggage. No help was offered by reception staff, who we found to be generally miserable. The apartment was well equipped and a good size. The outlook was average. The room service was not too good. Had to go to reception and ask for towels on two occasions. Had to ask for loo rolls as well, which was poor as half the guests had a tummy bug! The food in the Dining Room was very good. Nicely cooked and a good choice. Dining Room staff very friendly - especially Costas. The resort was poor. Good job the weather was good, as there was nothing much to do. No decent shops and no bus service to take you anywhere else. The traditional Greek excursion was poor. It was advertised saying they serve traditional Greek food. This turned out to be deep fired chicken and chips! Quite expensive and nearly £30! We enjoyed our holiday because the weather was excellent and we made the best of it, but I will not be coming here again.

“Below average”

Me and my better half stayed here for a week, and were quite disappointed. The hotel is classed as 4T, but we would rate it as a 2T at best - and we know that 4T and 2T don't mean 4* and 2*. The problems we encountered were our first apartment was filthy and poorly maintained, and after asking to be moved, our second, although a lot cleaner, was still very tatty. We certainly don't consider ourselves to be snobs, but expected a reasonable standard given the hotels rating - which it didn't live upto. The hotels restaurant wasn't tried, but the snack bar was below average, hardly any choice, and everything swimming in grease. The pool area was fine, and always busy, and although the reps had no resources for entertainment, they did try, bless 'em.

The resort itself was pretty quiet. The beach was a two minute walk away, and there were lots of water sports directly in front of the hotel. A word of warning about the resort, it only has one cash machine, and ran out of money and broke down several times during our week, so keep plenty of cash on you - there isn't a bank.

The bars and restaurants were, on the whole, fine, there were around a dozen of each, ranging from cheap and cheerful, to nice romantic settings on the sea front, athough don't expect fine cuisine here, it's more of the 'posh pub' type. We found the nights to be a little too quiet for us, most places either did quizzes, or put on hypnotists, the pubs did stay open very late, but don't go here if you like clubbing or want entertained during the evenings.

We booked our excursions through the Cosmos travel agency on the main street (nothing to do with the Cosmos holiday company) - do the same, you get the same excursions as you would with your holiday reps, but will save a bomb.

In all, we wouldn' t go back here, although not a complete disaster, the hotel was poor, and the resort too quiet for us - or maybe we were too young for the resort. (26 & 42)

“great for families”

We decided to travel to Corfu not knowing much about the resort of St George south or the corfu plaza. Because we arrived there at night the complex seemed small at first but the next morning we were pleasantly surprised by the white washed buildings and proximity to the beach. The pool was clean and never too busy. Sun beds were harder to come by becausepeople ended to get up early to reserve them. But there were plenty of chairs instead for leaving towels on.
The thomson reps were always cheerful and very helpful and the programme of activities kept us busy. The only problem we found was that there were very few people who watched the evening entertainment which takes away from the atmosphere (eg there were only about 8 families at the Greek evening). On the days/nights that most flights arrive the plaza appears almost abandoned We travelled in August when it is very hot until quite late in the evening and many people tended to eat later in the evening and would leave or return part way through the shows.
The beach is clean and not too busy most days. We travelled there with our 5 year old son and found the beach just right for children. There are water sport for the more active too. An you must try the donuts from the Viagra man!
The restaurants are good and the food varied and mostly good value for money. They tended to more family friendly at the plaza end of the resort and more specialist the further along the beach you travelled.
we would definitly recommend this resort for families and hope to go again. the only problem we found was that most of the available flights are night flights and that the airport was overcrowded anddisorganised (even at 4am). Oh and don't forget to take mosqiuto spray if you are prone to get bitten!

“5* for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2006

For a family with children looking for a quiet beach holiday this resort ticked all our boxes. The complex itself is perfectly located a short walk from the beach with excellent rooms and facilities. Well kept, safe and clean with picturesque gardens and a large swimming pool.

The Thomson reps (and there are a lot of them here) are fantastic with activities and entertainment on tap all day & evening. The kids were never bored and loved all the entertainment. If the little darlings drive you nuts, clubs and drop in clubs are also on hand to keep the kids busy while you chill by the pool.

The staff at the hotel are so hospitable and they all helped to make our holiday a perfect one. The reception is well run and in particular the pool bar staff are so warm and friendly, they make you feel like old friends come to visit again.

No hi-rise on this seafront! Set against a backdrop of wonderful scenery including mountains and olive groves. The sandy beach is such a beautiful place to relax with shallow, warm, crystal clear water and not too crowded at all. It has an abundance of water sport activities (if you want to get more physical) or you can bask in the glorious sunshine that seems to be a permanent feature of this island, this beach is perfect.

Nikos sea sports directly in front of the palm beach offers all kinds of fun activities and in my experience of water Nikos (the proprietor) takes very seriously the safety of his clients. I have 2 children and for the last 5 years I have been happy to involve them in a lot of the activities. This is so often a concern with youngsters but I am more than satisfied that his experience makes him entirely competent.

The village of St George has no shortage of bars & restaurants offering both English and Greek cuisine and again is so suited to families with it's low key friendly atmosphere. There is also an excellent buffet restaurant on site if you don't fancy the 5 minute walk to town. On the seafront verandas of the restaurants you can enjoy an evening meal whilst watching one of the most glorious sunsets I have ever seen.

We will be back again as we have done before. When something isn't broken, there is no point in fixing it. I know we can enjoy holiday after holiday in this charming corner of Corfu.

Negatives: Don't drink the water, the mineral content is a little high for some (usual for Greece). It's OK to brush your teeth in and Ice, soft drinks & food prep is made with mineral water so salads are OK. Mosquitoes can sometimes be a pest but repellent seems to deal with that.

  • Liked — Clean & spacious, excellent location with super friendly staff.
  • Disliked — Using a bin for the loo paper, but that's Greece for you.
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't forget the mosquito repellent.
