“Great small hotel in a great location on a great island!”

The Nireus is a relatively small, family-run hotel which faces out to sea on the outer harbour of the island of Symi. My wife and I have stayed there about half a dozen times over the last fifteen years or so, the last being in August 2011. As others have noted, the views from the front-facing rooms are wonderful and the location is great for us, a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of the main harbour, but close enough for restaurants, shops, water taxis etc to be handy. The rooms and public areas are comfortable, if simple, and everything works (AC, plumbing etc) and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is good and the hotel Taverna is a nice harbourside setting in the evening - the food is good and plentiful (so bear this in mind when ordering) with free wine and dessert for hotel guests. We would thoroughly recommend the Nireus to anyone visiting Symi.

Room Tip: Front rooms all get a great view, but the (less expensive) rear rooms face onto surrounding properti...

“A dream”

We spent a week at tha Nireus at the beginning of October. The hotel was chosen reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We asked to be upgraded to a room on the front and the views were worth every penny. The room was extremely clean, beddings and towels changed every day. Ver comfortable beds and powerful shower. The breakfast was very good and there was plenty of choice. The receptionists are extremely helpful and like all other members of staff very friendly. We would certainly come back and we strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wish for a peaceful stay. A great find for a superb holiday.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are highly recommended

“Hotel with million euro views!”

Nireus already has excellent reviews and that's why we chose to stay there. It's clean, and simply furnished so no frills but the staff are very friendly and always happy to help. BUT I do wish they would enforce the NO SMOKING rule in the public areas. We had to ask another guest to smoke elsewhere while we were having our breakfast and we often had to take ourselves outside to get fresh air! This hotel is not the only culprit as we had similar problems elsewhere. Greece is currently running an anti-smoking health promotion project at the moment - videos were being shown on the tv screens on the ferries. So apart from that gripe I would recommend staying there for the views alone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the clock tower

“great location and good service”

The hotel offers good quality accommodation at the best location in Symi. It is on the waterfront , which means no nighly climb to your hotel and easy access to the town and eateries . Would certainly recommend - and try and get a room on the top floor with seaview. Note there is no lift so you will need to carry your bags up - but the view is worth it

“Wonderful location and atmosphere”

We were delighted with our choice of hotel.
The Nireus is just a minute's walk from the ferry by the old clocktower on Symi's harbour front. Our 2nd floor room was enormous (in fact I think it was probably classed as a suite) and had two balconies looking over the harbour. These were ideal for sitting on in the evening with a glass of wine and watching the sun go down. The rooms were traditionally furnished with masses of wardrobe space, a tv, aircon, fridge, a proper bath and a powerful shower. Note: no hairdryer. The windows even had traditonal wooden shutters.
Breakfast is served buffet style and had plenty of choice. You also have the option of taking your breakfast across the road to sit at the hotel's harbour-front tables. There is even a set of steps down into the clean harbour water to have a morning dip!
We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, but the terrace bar was attractive and had wi-fi connections.
Symi is beautiful. As there was very little traffic we hired a scooter and toured around the island, stopping at some of its beaches and the monastary Mihail Panormitis to the south of the island. It is also very easy to get very fast and efficient water taxis to the island's beaches.
One night we ate at Bella Napoli in a lane off the South Quay, just for a change from Greek cuisine. The pizzas were delicious and very large. In fact we could have shared one pizza.
Symi is a traditional greek island with a cosmopolitan feel. It is frequented by some very large yachts and for this reason the fish restaurants near the hotel are expensive.
We will definitely return to Symi and the Nireus hotel.
