Having been invited to a wedding on Antiparos, we spent two nights at Dimitra Hotel at the beginning of September. The couple to be married had arranged a special price at the hotel for the guests, more than half of the regular price. For the money we paid, the hotel was o.k. The rates posted on the room door, however, were tragically exaggerated for a two-star hotel (95,- Euros during high season, 80,- Euros during low season, per night, for a room with two beds). The hotel and the rooms are simply NOT worth this money.
The hotel is located about a five-minute walk from the little harbor and main road (where all the restaurants, bars and shops are). It is next to the sea (you have to walk about 3 minutes to get to a little beach with very shallow water, or about 15 minutes to reach the other side, where there is a nicer (nudist) beach.
Some rooms have sea view, some don’t. The rooms are quite clean. Each room has a safe (ask the owner how to open and operate the safe upon arrival), an AC, a TV (which wouldn’t switch on), a small fridge and a hair drier. Toiletry consists of bathing foam and shampoo. The bathroom is relatively new and appears very clean. Furniture is somewhat dated. Each room also has a small balcony, with plastic table and chairs. Ours unfortunately only had a view on the yard.
The hotel also has a small veranda-restaurant with sea view (which we never visited, as we spent our days with the wedding-party at the hotel next door that also had a pool).
The owner and his wife are very sweet and accommodating people.
Bad aspects:
The rooms are tiny; the bathroom is even tinier. No space to deposit your suitcases (we placed on the fridge that was balancing on a chair), the other on top of the wardrobe. Some hanging space in the wardrobe.
The curtain in the room is very thin and does not prevent the Greek summer sun from shining into the room.
The cleaning ladies start cleaning around 10 a.m. and make an incredible noise while doing so (really bad if you’re one to enjoy the Greek night life, which lasts until sun dawn). They also entered our room while we were still sleeping, probably after knocking but we didn’t hear that, ignoring the fact that the room was locked. Too bad that there is no ‘Do not disturb’ sign or a bolt. They continued their noise happily in the room next door (despite having been told by the owner that more than half of the guests had attended the wedding reception which lasted until morning).
Breakfast is served until 10.30 a.m. (which you also miss if you can’t get out of bed that early). No idea if the price is inclusive breakfast.
Room service consists of a brief floor sweeping and folding (not changing) of sheets. The towels, which were incredibly stained with make up and sand, were not changed.
No complimentary water is provided, which is really bad if you arrive at night and do not buy some mineral water at a kiosk (you cannot drink water from the tap).
Room lighting is miserable, there’s no way you can put on make up at night.
So, overall impression: Good location and relatively acceptable quality for the money we paid, but absolutely not worth the money they officially ask for.
