“Honestly, this is your best deal ever!”

We 've just came back from our second weekend trip to Rethymnon in autumn-winter 2011 and of course we wouldn't stay anywhere else than Leo Hotel. This beautiful venetian mansion is perfectly nestled in the romantic old town, right a few steps from the beach, the market and all these little curving paved pedestrians that make this ideal scenery to sweep away with your honey. The fotos are telling only the truth, making this accomodation your best value for money ever. In any other place you will pay about the double, and -not in all cases- you 're not getting more back. The personnel is very discreet yet kind and attentive, so you can overlook any other comment saying it was impersonal. Except, if you would like to be greeted a hundred times a day, or to have the doors opened for you ... Breakfast is quite simple, but seemed ok for us, as we woke up late every day and we only needed something to keep us going till lunch. Still everything was fresh -big plus the at-the-moment freshly squeezed orange juice- and you won't be refused if you need a little extra from something. The only fault we found were a few minor maintenance things, that I suppose can get easily fixed anytime before the summer season. Don't ask, of course we would go back again!

“Lovely hotel, lovely staff and a perfect base for exploring Rethymnon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

We stayed during the first week of October and loved our time here. It's a beautifully decorated, small hotel located in a quieter but very central part of the Old Town, close to all the shops and restaurants. The freshly made breakfasts were a treat every morning and the staff were genuinely warm and friendly, always wanting to help. We loved it and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Our side room overlooking the alleyway was maybe quieter than the rooms at each end of the building.

“Enjoyed our stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We were plesently surprised with this hotel, especially after our initial reaction of the taxi driver not knowing where the hotel was located. To his defence, it is located down a small street off one of the main streets, and not visible when driving.

Upon arrival, we were shown to our room on the 2nd floor. There is no elevator, therefore be prepared to walk a few steps...which didn't bother us. The room was well decorated, had a canopy bed, and a nice washroom with shower. Our room faced the side street, which was good, since it wasn't very noisy. The rooms facing the main street had balcony's, but they would be nosier. The negative feature of the room was that the bed was 2 single mattresses put together, rather than a large bed. We had wine and fruit in out room upon arrival.

The free breakfast was a nice touch. The food was 'ok'. There is a small bar, where we came back to the hotel for a drink one night. They ran out of Mythos, but we made it up with another beer. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy a drink.

The location of the hotel in the old part of town was very convenient, and allowed us to walk to where ever we wanted to go. We always felt safe.

Rethymno was a great town. The bus station was a 15 minute walk from our hotel. We took the bus to Preveli Beach and enjoyed our day there. The other day, we simply walked around the town. Most of the clothing stores, etc. were closed on Sunday. We visited the castle and took lots of photos.

I would recommend Rethymo as well as Hotel Leo. We booked through Booking.com and received a great rate.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view of the side street were less noisy.

“Had a wonderful time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

This was our first time to Crete and we weren't sure we picked the best town to stay in. When we arrived at Hotel Leo the service was great and efficient and the accommodations were modern and clean. We're from Canada so there was a bit of an expectation in terms of room quality and size. We were shown 2 rooms that we could pick between and opted to stay in 103 which looked over the main street. We sat out on our balcony on a few nights and had some drinks while we people watched the pedestrians below.

The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from the main beach which was really reasonable to rent beach chairs for the day. The area was awesome and by far one of the biggest surprise highlights from our trip. In terms of value for you money, you'll be hard pressed to find anything better. Breakfast was really nice and you had a choice of a bunch of different items ranging anywhere from bacon and eggs to waffles with chocolate sauce.

“Picturesque but impersonal!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

Located in a picturesque, more than 500 yrs old, building, Leo hotel offers spacious, nicely decorated rooms. Ours had a balcony overlooking Rethymnon central pedestrian street, which is noisy enough all day and all night long, especially in high season. Under these conditions, you are somehow obliged to use the air-condition no matter the outside temperature. The breakfast is served in a small pedestrian street, and I would call it quite typical and impersonal, especially considering the fact that there are only 8 rooms in the premises. The most annoying, though, was the lack of local products when Crete has a long tradition and a broad variety of delicious snacks.
