We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel itself was about a 20-25 minute walk into Ag Nik; the walk itself was along a dirt path occasionally but most of the way was on a nice pathway, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants on the way, so if you plan to walk into town even in midday you can stop for a drink.
Ag Nik itself is a lovely town, with many bars, restaurants and shops. There are many places to explore and the prices in town for drinks etc are a lot less than you will find in the Hotel. The marina itself is very pretty, and there is also a sandy beach on the way into town.
The hotel itself was very nice. The food was amazing. We only stayed half board but we really did not need anything else as we could help ourselves to a massive breakfast, then would be full until dinner time. For breakfast there was pretty much everything you could imagine, and dinner was much the same with themed nights and 2 different restaurants to choose from. One morning we sat outside and had a lovely view of the sea while eating our cereal; couldn’t really ask for more.
There quite a lot of areas to go in the day in terms of pool/beach. However as there is a charge for the sunbeds up until 3pm at the beach, so you need to be quick in getting a seat by the pool as they fill up quickly. There is a bar by the pool, and there is also a shop in the hotel which is okay- but not as cheap as the one opposite the hotel over the road. The beach itself is nice, but quite stony, but once your swimming it doesn’t really matter. It’s a nice place to lounge about during the day.
The room itself was clean, and quite big. The shower was fine, quite good water pressure etc, and there was nothing I could fault to do with the bathroom, they even had a hairdryer! There was plenty of storage space, and the room was cleaned regularly by the maids! We had the garden room view with a balcony, and to be honest it wasn’t the best view, but it was what we paid for and it was fine, as the balcony itself was nice, and you could see over onto the pretty gardens.
My only fault with this hotel is the price of drinks. We realized the price of drinks on the first night however, when me and my boyfriend each ordered a beer with our meal and a bottle of water; it is expensive, and the alcohol provided is placed in a tiny glass.
HOWEVER; if you are staying half board like we did; there is a solution. Not only is there a shop over the road which sells a wide range of alcohol at about half the price, they also sell massive 2litre bottles of water for about 2 euros. We asked the reception if we could have our mini bar in our hotel room to be emptied of all items, and they did so the next day, and we filled that up with lots of water/alcohol etc and we were fine.
We also found an amazing bar/restaurant called KRI KRI, about 10 minutes walk away from the hotel. We encountered it while on the way back from Ag Nik and we stopped for a drink, in which the owner of the bar/restaurant gave us free Raki, and tomatoes…don’t know why but we appreciated it! We then on went there every night as the hotel drinks were far too expensive and the entertainment not worth staying at the hotel for. For the same price of a beer back at the hotel you got about 3 times more beer at Kri Kri. The atmosphere was amazing, and Dimitris makes the most amazing cocktails you will ever taste! They made our stay in Crete amazing!
To end; we went on a few trips- to Knossos to visit the Minoan palace- which was worthwhile, we did it through our holiday company so we got a guide and tour, and although costly it was very worthwhile as we also got to look around Herklion.
However I would say if you venture into town, you will literally find about 20 cheaper deals for most of the trips; specially Spinalonga. Trips go from the harbour in the centre and it’s so easy to book a trip as you can just walk up to the boats.
Overall, I would say that if you are going to come to this hotel definitely go for All inclusive! The food, room, and hotel grounds are lovely, couldn’t fault them! But more worthwhile is the great location, right opposite the bus stop, only 20 minutes walk into town, Ag Nik is a perfect sunny town which is well worth a visit!
