“Basic hotel with friendly staff, central location, close to Metro.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

The hotel is 5 minutes from Omonia Metro station, central and quite easy to find, a good base. The area around Omonia square leaves a lot to be desired, dirty with homeless, prostitutes and drug users, although with a high Police presence doesn't feel threatening. The hotel is basic but generally clean, although a little old with signs of wear. Two lifts take you up to one of the nine floors. The room was of a reasonable size and quite comfortable with a refridgerator, but no kettle. Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the first floor and consisted of a reasonable selection of cold items and also warm bacon, 2 types of eggs and sausages. There is also a bar but we didn't use it.
Good value for money, would certainly go back again.

“Don´t travel alone”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

The Hotel has a sufficient good service and the Staff are nice to you. Near to Omonia Metro Station but at night is a place where the homeless and addicted people stay. I don´t have any problems, walking with the group at night, but alone probably is dangerous.

“Stay away from this area!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

The hotel itself was Ok, Helpful staff, ok beds and clean. If you want drinks, don't visit the bar.

The biggest issue was the location. We were warned by two taxidrivers, who told us that it was a really bad location. As many other here say, it stinks urine, there are a lot of prostitutes and illigale imigrants, in addition to the drugdealers. We did not feel safe, and choose to take taxis when we needed to leave or go to the hotel after it was dark!!

By the way, the famous Omonia Square, was important 100 years ago, today it is more like a roundabout near the central market. If I go back I would stay in the plaka-area:-)

“Bad Bad Bad Location”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2010

Hotel was marginally OK, the area is filthy and stinks of urine. At one end of the street its the red light district at the other end groups of unemployed migrants roam. Policemen are out in force I asked one about the area he told me it was trouble. If the area was OK I would have put up with the hotel - it was not. We packed a bag and left Athens. Trying to get compensation from easyjet - they should never have put any hotel in this area on their list to choose from. A scary place to take a wife to. We met Australians from another Hotel in the area there views mirrored these.

“Wow! Ionis Hotel in Athens!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2010

This hotel is located by the Omonia (sp) Metro station. Its not the best of neighborhoods, but then, where in Athens do you find one? It was safe, the clerks are helpful with information and spoke good English. The place was riddled with marble as most of Athens is so you could hear echos everywhere, even from floor to floor. However, the beds were hard, radio old and only one station, but the windows had an internal shutter and heavy drapes to keep out the light, a big plus for me! The breakfast every morning included eggs, sausage (not what you're thinking, Greek sausage), juice, toast, coffee choices, milk, and delicious! The wait staff is courteous and the view was, well, a Greek street and we drank in the splendor of this beautiful city.
