The Hotel Achilleas is a hotel that I have used on and off for the past 40 years. In recent years, especially for the Athens Olympics, it has had a a major refit which has improved radically.
The rooms are minimalist but spacious and the hotel itself is very unfussed in the way it attends with customers...efficient and effective.
The best thing, for me at any rate, about the Achilleas is its location. It is really central. just below Syntagma Square, with great access to the extended Underground railway sations at Monastiraki and Syntagma Square. Very easy to get to and from Athens Airport and the port of Piraeus. Ancient Athens and the Plaka are only short walks away.
Breakfast was adequate without being spectacular, with the staff courteous and friendly.
As a management consultant and linguist by profession, I regularly had work to do in and around Athens and I have stayed in a variety of places over a forty year period. The Achilleas will give you good, clean, comfortable accommodation and facilities without destroying the budget.
