My husband and I stayed in the Electra Palace in January 2012. We were very pleased with the location: while the hotel is situated a few meters away from the center, Syntagma square, the hotel still enjoys relative quietude as it's located in one of the narrow streets leading up to the Plaka area and a great walk around the Acropolis (don't miss the Acropolis Museum!). Welcoming and servce in general is warm and professional. The spaces are large and comfortable, although the bar was not so much used. There is a roof restaurant with spectacular views on the Acropolis, although you cannot really see the Parthenon, just a tiny bit of its corner. The restaurant offers gastrnomic greek dishes with a twist, an excellent wine list and very good service. It is worth noting that locals come to the hotel for events, banquets and for the roof restaurant. Apparently there is a roof pool that opens in the summer, where you can enjoy a nice swim and a drink while looking at Athens from above. The breakfast is fine, not too rich, but still adequate. Some more fresh fruit might be a good idea. Our room was large, with a small balcony and a good size bathroom. It was very well kept. The only negative part of our visit is the poor sound isolation between bedrooms. At 6 a.m. we could hear the next door guest taking a shower, as if their bathroom was right in our bedroom. We only complained about this while checking out and the very nice receptionist said we should have told them sooner. Nevertheless, it is still unacceptable that there is such a thin wall in such a five star hotel. The management should really consider this as a handicap - it is really unacceptable, hence the 4 stars rather than 5. Would we be back? Absolutely, but making sure we get a more quiet room.
