The hotel is located right outside the most lovely historical centre of Guimarães, a city I can't recommed enough to be included in a Portugal tour. A short and pleasant walk will get you to the main square and, if by car, in a short ride you get to the roads and the highway.
This is a modern, clean and confortable hotel. The staff is very nice and managed to get us two rooms, even with no reservations and during the Jazz Festival, which attracts many visitors to the city - I couldn't attend the concerts, since there were no more tickets left, but got to see McCoy Tyner a few times in the lobby...
Rooms are big, with a flat tv, fridge, safe and free wi-fi. Good breakfast and free garage. I did not use the spa, but it looked very nice.

Nice modern rooms. Seems like everything was refurbished but the bathroom though.... How could they forget that? It's on the edge of town, but it's a small town so it doesn't matter. Wifi is free, but you have to ask them for a password every 12 hours and it's a little slow. Otherwise, nice hotel.

It was a great stay at this hotel. It is near to the town centre and near to the highway. The rooms we had (431/432) were brand new. Two nice large beds, nice pillows and a large bathroom with a big shower. All was very clean.The breakfast was also very good, you have a wide variety of choices. The only minus we have was that our fridge in the room was not working and it could not be fixed, but every evening the waiter came to bring us a big bowl with icecubes. We can really advise you to book this hotel.

We stayed for one night at the Hotel de Guimaraes but were not impressed with the service and our room. The reception staff seemed a bit dour and surly and weren't interested in making guests feel welcome. They didn't bother to tell us about the garage at the back of the hotel when we asked about parking. Whiile our bedroom was large with a good-sized bathroom, the furniture was shabby and the safe was broken - certainly not the standard you'd expect from a 4-star hotel. It was located at the end of a corridor where some buidling work was going on. The builders arrived for work on Saturday morning before 8 AM and that was the end of our planned lie-in. It was just impossible to sleep through all the hammering and drilling that was going on. Overall, a very disappointing experience. We won't be coming back to this hotel.
