“An amazing outdoor pool and super comfortable bed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

The location of the hotel is very good. The main attractions of the city are within walking distance yet the environment of the hotel is pleasant as the hotel stands on 90 metre-wide boulevard called Avenida de Liberdade. In addition there’s a metro station (Avenida) very close to the hotel. Taxi from airport should cost less than 10 euros.

I ended up spending too much time looking for the the nearest grocery store to buy water, drinks and snacks so here’s a time saver for you: there’s a Minipreco market at Rua Barata Salgueiro 4. From the hotel, turn left and walk Avenida de Liberdade to the next crossroads. Turn right and cross the boulevard, then keep going forward and you should see the store soon on your left. Unfortunately the market is not open very late, only until about 19.

I stayed in standard room which was a bit small but very clean and well kept. The bed is large and super comfortable; I cannot remember when I last slept so well. The decoration of the room is not very modern but the devices are: there’s LCD TV, alarm clock with iPod dock and fancy coffee machine. Too bad that the coffee is not included in the room rate.

There was a bottle of water in the room when we arrived. It would have been nice if a new bottle of water would be delivered to the room every day but that didn’t happen. Strange thing was that the housekeeping kept taking the glasses away from the room without replacing them with clean ones. I had to call the housekeeping and ask for new ones. This wasn’t as easy as one would think since most of the time the person who answered the phone only spoke Portuguese.

I chose this hotel mainly because of the outdoor pool and it absolutely is the best thing about the hotel. The sun beds are of high quality and very comfortable. Towels are also available. If you go to the pool area before noon you have no trouble getting sunbed. In the peak hours you may have to wait for a bit but not long. The pool par is also very nice but a bit pricey (1,5l water 5.50 euros, 0.4l beer 7 euros).

The buffet breakfast is plentiful containing all sorts of warm and cold dishes. If your reservation doesn’t include breakfast, don’t worry: the breakfast costs only 15 euros and is really worth it. I could only find good deals for the hotel without breakfast but it was still pretty good deal even after adding the breakfast price.

The hotel has nice lounge-style rooftop bar called Sky Bar with amazing view over the city. Once again the prices are a bit high (10 euros for Caipirinha) and the service is slow. The hotel also includes 2 restaurants and a lobby bar but I didn’t use any of them.

In summary, the outdoor swimming pool and location are the highlights of this hotel. If you appreciate them and manage to get a good deal, this is definitely your choice. If you’re looking for a true five-star experience, I’m sure there is something better out there.

“Good hotel - great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

I've stayed in quite a few hotels in Lisbon over the years from the plushest to the grubbiest and this is a good one. No hotel is perfect but after arriving from Porto and Tomar, I entered the bedroom and smiled. It was a pleasant room, nice bathroom, really can't complain. With so many restaurants on the doorstep, not sure why anybody would dine on the premises. But the Sky bar is a nice start to the evening. My only gripe was when I paid the fridge bar, the reception clearly guessed at the total and when I challenged the amount, they caved in immediately. Possibly a rogue member of staff. So check your bar fridge and fill in the form. Otherwise, I really would book this hotel again.

“Classy joint”

Recently had a refurbishment, and it has the feel of a classy hotel. We only paid £100 for a room for me, my wife and daughter, and it was a really nice room with a massive bed. We thought it represented real value for money.

You get a voucher for a drink at the Skybar, where they recommend the "Skybar" cocktail - don't have it, its too small and weak. Ask for your favourite cocktail instead!

The one problem we found with this Hotel is that everything is charged extra for - even the tea and coffee in the room is not complimentary, and 3 euro a time. The Bars and Restaurants were expensive.

Our problem was that the room was in our price range but the food and drink weren't!! lol.

The staff are fantastic - absolutely top notch, nothing too much trouble and they all have that "air" about them that you only get at Top Class Hotels.

We really liked it here, the location is pretty good, about a 10 min walk to Baixa, and 15 to Barro Alto.

“A classy and beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

We stayed here for two nights following a cruise that ended in Lisbon. The rates were reasonable and they upgraded us free of charge to a beautiful, and very large suite on the fifth floor. Even though we arrived early (10 am), they let us up to our room immediately. The service was first class, the buffet breakfast was stellar, and the view from the rooftop terrace bar was stunningly beautiful, although the drinks were overpriced, and not particularly good. The hotel is located in the high end shopping part of town, and is a block from the hop on/hop off bus, and a reasonable walk to the waterfront. Taxis were easy to find. High speed wireless internet was complimentary, and there were two flat screen tvs in the rooms. We would definitely stay here again in our future trips to Lisbon.

“A great hotel”

This was the second hotel we stayed in during our recent trip to Lisbon. We stayed at Hotel Borges for our first three nights and booked the Tivoli as a treat at the end of our holiday, and a wonderful treat it was. The staff were very attentive - the doormen opened our taxi doors almost before it had stopped. We arrived around mid-day and the staff on the reception desk were very helpful. Although check-in was not until after 2pm we given our rooms straight as we were travelling with children. We had two identical interconnecting rooms towards the rea of the main hotel (room 146 and 148). Alhough there was what appeared to be air-conditioning equipment outside our rooms once double glazed windows were closed there was no noticable noise. The rooms were comfortable and of reasonable size and looked as if they were included in the renovation of the hotel which took place in 2008.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel. At €15 per person per day it seemed over priced but, has I didn't try it, it may have been worth it. We did order drinks from room service one evening and they arrived within minutes of us putting the phone down.

The hotel is on on of the main avenues in Lisbon but is not at all noisy. It's a short walk to the nearest underground station and about 10 minutes to the squares and tourist areas.

Although there is no taxi stand nearby getting taxis is not a problem as they regularly drive past the hotel. Our taxi to the airport was less than €10 and took about 15 minutes. This is a wonderful hotel wirh a great lobby and I would happily stay here again.
