I, my partner and my 2 year - old son just spent a week there. It was good but in my opinion this is a good 3 star hotel .
First the advantages: The complex is clean and tidy, this includes the lobby, the flat, the restaurant, the pools... They have a very good kids club, staffed by one person this year (as opposed to 3 staff members last year) but this person is very professional and I have seen parents leaving their kids there for some time and the kids were busy playing. It is well equipped too and my son did not get bored. Then, the complex is not in a busy part of the Algarve, it is very quiet and a few kilometers from Portimao (but it seems that there is a local bus every 30 minutes going to/from Portimao). I found that Portimao is nice but too busy for me to be on holidays. There is a village Alvor about 2 kilometers away and it is a cute and quiet village. The staff at the hotel are nice and friendly. There are nice activities on site, in the evening. We went to Portugal at a fairly quiet time of the year but we had 2 evening activities (Parrots show and live music) but according to staff at the peak of Summer there are similar activities every evening. The local beach is very near and it is absolutely fantastic, beautiful and clean. At the hotel, there is a really nice indoor Jacuzzi and indoors swimming pool, very clean. The indoor gym is ok but limited in equipment. The kid playground is ok (not the best I have seen but did keep my son busy), there are some small parrots in a big cage, which my son really liked.
Disadvantages: My main issue was the food/dinner. The breakfast is really good but the dinner is very very predictible (potatoes-boiled or chips- boiled broccoli , boiled carrots and then you choose a piece of meat or fish), the starter is a mixed salad ( one day with tuna, another day seafood, another day chicken ) or a soup (which in my opinion is not fresh at all, directly made from a instant soup bag/powder soup style). Dessert is cheesecake (strongly not recommended), ice cream or the fruit salad left overs from the breakfast in the morning. Regarding the flat , it has the basics but the bathroom is definitely not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel (e.g. you need some time and patience to get the right temperature of the shower before entering the bath, otherwise you might just scald yourself). Also we had to fiddle with the internal door going to our terrace as its lock was temperamental.
