“A Magical Wedding Destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

My new husband and I were just married at Bluefields Bay Villas. I couldn't have imagined a more magical wedding day! Your villa here comes with a personal staff: butler, chef, maid, gardener, beach attendant, and security. During our wedding, the staff took care of everything. We decided to have our ceremony right on the beach. The staff made a beautiful handcrafted arch made of bamboo and flowers. Flower petals were scattered on the sand. All of the flowers used in the decorations were taken right off the property and were gorgeous! We simply showed up with our rings and vows, and everything else was taken care of for us! This is exactly how we wanted our wedding to be: beautiful, romantic and stress free. We used the minister recommended by the villas' owners. He and his wife were fabulous! We had a traditional rum wedding cake that was to die for! (We tried, unsuccessfully, to coerce the recipe from our wonderful chef, Jackie:) We had our photographer take pictures on the property and oh my, they are breathtakingly beautiful! This property and the blue ocean make the most beautiful canvas for your portraits. If you are a bride, you'll likely feel like I did......that wedding pictures are a top priority. They are a keepsake for a lifetime and I wanted the best! (Find Merrick Cousley Photography online...he lives in Jamaica and he was awesome).

Most of the staff have been here a long time, some as many as 20 years! That speaks volumes to the owners and these villas! This place is so beautiful, something right out of a movie!! Our meals could rival any 5 star restaurant here in the states! You can lay on a beautiful beach if you want, and then you can go for a swim in your own private pool. We stayed in Cottonwood Cottage and we loved having the separate dining area. To eat all your meals as you gaze at the turquoise waters of the Carribean.... I felt spoiled. And with the personal service, I felt like a celebrity. Truly. The home is decorated with the most amazing furniture. We were able to view the other properties. All are equally beautiful. Be sure to explore the pathways and go snorkeling off the beach. Don't forget a book so you can enjoy one of my favorite places-the hammock that nearly swings out over the ocean. We fell in love with so many of the staff and we miss them. Each house has their own, but we were lucky enough to get to know many of the staff here: Jackie, Tamara, James, Aldeen, Percy, Carmen, Papito, Ricardo, Kirk, Dujon, Lawerence, Sharon, Venecia and Gregory. What a great group of people!

This place is a honeymoon paradise!

My family (my parents, my husband, my son, and I) just returned from an amazing two week stay in Mullion Cove at Bluefields Bay Villas. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay: the home, the surroundings, the excursions, and most of all the staff. Mullion Cove itself is a charming home with gorgeous gardens and breathtaking views of the water. The antique furnishings, though handsome and of high quality, are incredibly comfortable. The layout of the home, especially the veranda, encourages you to relax. The gardens around Mullion Cove are like a botanical garden and bird sanctuary rolled into one, and we could see all the unbelievably beautiful flora and fauna just sitting on our veranda. The pathway to the beach was well groomed and a great place to spot lizards and hermit crabs, leading to areas with beach chairs and hammocks for privacy and rest. My husband and I loved having a massage in the seaside gazebo from the talented masseuse while hearing waves breaking. The beach itself was a sandy paradise. We did manage to tear ourselves away from this splendor to enjoy a few outings. Our family “oohed” over the boat captain petting a wild crocodile at Black River. We were blown away by both the natural beauty of YS Falls and the scrumptious picnic lunch our cook had prepared for the trip. My husband and son cantered on the beach with horses at a nearby property. We even managed to get an early start one morning to take a guided hike through the hills behind our villa. Even with all the natural wonders, the part that most stands out at Mullion Cove is the staff. What a magical group of people! Each and every one of the Bluefields’ employees was excellent at their jobs and such genuinely nice people. Our stay at Mullion Cove was truly the most restorative vacation we have ever taken, and we have never gone back to the same spot twice. We booked our return visit to Mullion Cove within two days of being home. I can’t think of a higher compliment than that.

“Amazing family vacation”

We loved our stay at Bluefields! We traveled with our three kids (ages 7, 5, 1) and my parents. The trip exceeded our expectations.

The Hermitage is a gorgeous house, designed to allow you to fully appreciate the setting. We loved sitting in the living room and looking out to the pool and the ocean and hearing the birds & lizards at night. It was great to escape all the distractions of daily life in the U.S. to be able to focus on each other and have family time. It was a few days before I realized the kids hadn't even missed having a TV because they were so busy exploring and playing at the beach, in the pool and around the house.

The setting was wonderful - so many beautiful plants and flowers, beautiful landscaping. It was almost magical for the kids to find hermit crabs and lizards. The beach was awesome - plenty of trees for the kids to build sandcastles in the shade. We loved the kayaks. And, it was so cool to find starfish colonies not too far from the beach.

The staff was fantastic! So warm & friendly. Our kids loved the nannies (RoAnna and Kim). We left our menu up to Chef Jackie, who did an amazing job. James' jerk chicken was incredible! Percy drove us to Blackriver and YS Falls (go see the Falls!) and was so knowledgeable about all the towns we drove through. Dujon was our beach bartender and took good care of us while we were at the beach. The staff was just wonderful!

We got to spend one night at Cottonwood Cottage and have dinner in the Tree House, which was a great experience. Hermitage was definitely my favorite of the four villas we saw, but we really enjoyed Cottonwood and would recommend it to a couple just traveling with their kids.

The only negative about the trip was the mosquitos, but this is true of any tropical climate. They did provide Skin So Soft, but that didn't seem the deter the things from biting. Bring bugspray! Another thing to be aware of is that the villas are very open, so there is not A/C throughout them, though there is in some of the bedrooms.

We hope to return to Bluefields. It was a magical vacation.

“THE vacation of a lifetime!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

Without a doubt the most amazing week my family and I have ever spent. My husband and I took our married daughter and her husband along with my recent UT grad for a week at the Mullion Cove Villa. The minute your driver delivers you to the villa you have truly entered paradise. We each had our own bedroom with a private bath decorated with beautiful antique canopy beds and plenty of closet space. The incredible staff makes sure your stay is perfect in every way. We had pedicures and massages at the gazebo overlooking the ocean, champagne and lobster cocktails at sunset and incredible meals on the most beautiful china and table settings I have ever seen. The staff meticulously sets the table for every meal with fresh cut flowers from the magnificently manicured grounds surrounding the villas and serves the most delicious meals you have ever had. My son-in-law prides himself on his culinary tastes, and was truly impressed every night as each meal was "the best he's ever had". We had been to Jamaica before and done a lot of the touristy excursions, so this time we were able to enjoy, relax, and just be pampered. Believe me, you will not want to leave the villa. The term I heard most was "whatever you like", as they encourage you to let them know what you like so they can please you. Each morning we were greeted with a fresh pot of coffee and made to order breakfast on the veranda with a magnificent ocean view. We went down to the private beach where an ice chest of red stripe, champagne & OJ was already there. We were treated to pina coladas served on a silver platter daily and honestly "whatever we wanted". We played in our private pool, snorkeled, went kayaking, deep sea fishing and took a guided tour into the beautiful mountains! I can't emphasize enough that the staff is so attentive without being intrusive and truly anticipates your every desire. I was going to say need, but who really "needs" a mimosa while eating fresh papaya, mangos & homemade pumpkin pancakes....................................well I guess I did!! Debbie, the owner of the properties, is always available to answer questions and assist with reservations. She called us shortly after our stay for our comments and after listening to my rave reviews asked what we could suggest to improve our stay................I couldn't think of a thing...................like I said, it was the "vacation of a lifetime!"

“The Best Family Vacation EVER. Beautiful Villa, Property & Mostly The STAFF!!”

WOW!! So much more than what we expected. Thanks Debbie for getting this done for us. I know it took some work on your end to get us the dates we needed. Our family of 4 stayed at Mullion Cove for 7 nights. The furnishings were beautiful! It is the original Villa/First villa built. It has the "old style" features. Very well taken care of. If you like the fine quality workmanship of older homes you will love this villa. We live in a 1885 Victorian and we really appreciated this home. We will be back and stay at this same villa next summer for sure. It also has a great big pool! There is a wonderful view of the ocean and the garden is endless.Very private. Flowers growing everywhere. Hummingbirds galore! Ask Feldon to help you find some of their nests. You'll find him down at the beach. So, maybe if he has some extra time, he can give you a tour of the grounds. He knows every flower, bird, bird call, song, nest, tree, plant, ocean creature, etc. Just tell him that "Amber sent you his way." He'll remember. I was asking him question after question the whole time I was there and he always had the answer. I would also request him to go along if you take the snorkel trip. It's a great price. It's not per person but per hour. I think $35 an hour. Feldon went with us and I followed him in the water and he pointed out everything I could touch and not touch. He encouraged me to touch the things I really did not want to touch, but I did it and was proud of myself. He spoted the many jellyfish and helped me to avoid them with ease. He even picked one up out of the water for me to see. I yelled for him to put it down and he said "It just stings a little bit." Too much excitement!! Maurice made a breakfast daily-wonderful omlettes! Jackie prepared us wonderful food for lunch and dinner.. We left the menu up to her. It was better that way because she knows what's good!! She is a true chef. She can cook it up!! Best food we ever had! I gained 8lbs! Thanks for that by the way Jackie. She's also a hot tamale!! He nickname given to her by me was HOTSTUFF! She would just laugh and tell me I was silly. Then again, Feldon did make some mean Pumpkin Juice and Guiness Drinks! That probably did not help with my gain of 8 lbs! You have to have one, or two... Maurice was our driver and all around great go to guy for anything. We relied on him for a lot. He was always around when we needed him. He arranged our trips/excursions. We love our Maurice! Wonderful man!! Kenton was our nightman. If you needed anything during the night he was right there in the kitchen. Our lovable guard dog Felix, was always around. He loved the boys and my husband. He wanted to get in the pool and play with them so badly but we knew he was trained not to and he knew it too. He had his place and he knew where he could and could not go. But I tell you one thing, if there was trouble at that pool with one of my boys, we would have known about it. He probably would have went beserk! The great thing about the pool was that you could always see it. From wherever you were. (The dogs are a wonderful addition to the family.)
Kim my boys(ages 8,10) Nanny was a wonderful gift. She was attentive and kind. She was always getting them what they needed. We love you Kim. Sharon was the housekeeper. She was always keeping things spotless. Our laundry was cleaned everyday and it smelled wonderful!! Thanks Sharon!! Our wonderful smelling Headman Aldeen! We miss you! Always getting us whatever we needed. Aldeen always looked his best and was always smiling. Makes great drinks too! Donald was our gardener. He would pick fresh flowers from the garden daily and ask me if they were ok with me for the Villa. Of course they were!! He picked tons of puss tails and decorated the table with the other fellas for my son's birthday party. They all came out to a flower decorated table with streamers and a homemade cake with candles singing happy birthday. It was like we were all family. I miss them all so much. Thank you all so much for such wonderful, wonderful memories. We can't wait to make more with all of you again! We love you all! Amber, Scott. Owen and Aiden Randall
