“The perfect "relaxation vacation"”

This was our 15th trip to Bluefields (it may be more, as we lost count after 10), since 1992. We have stayed at all the properties with family, friends and by ourselves. This most recent visit to San Michele may have been our best. The butler, Marvin, and the cook, Harry, make a great team. Our housekeeper, Annette, and gardener, Artman, keep the property in immaculate condition. From the minute you step out of the villa van, you feel as if you are at home and are immediately relaxed. We try to return once a year for an anniversary, birthday or merely to get away. If you are seeking a place to chill, this is it. Understated elegence and beautiful surroundings - a perfect relaxation vacation.

“The ultimate family reunion”

Thank you Bluefields Staff! We had a great time. 20 plus relatives, scattered across the lower 48 settled into 3 houses for a week of relaxation, and to celebrate one's 75th birthday. The staff exceeded expectations on service, and flexibility. Excursions ran smoothly for everyone, with every detail thought out for us. The food was wonderful, as were the different birthday cakes.

The swimming, snorkeling, and beach were awesome, and very, very private! Wonderful!

“A magical paradise of Jamaican charm and culinary delights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

My vacation at the Hermitage was the most wonderful experience ever. From the moment we stepped out of the airport the staff at Bluefields were so helpful and friendly. We were greeted by Percy our driver who was so friendly and eager to share his love for is country and on every adventure that went on with him he provided a wealth of information about the agrigulture, the people and the culture of Jamaica. We arrived at Hermitage and just couldn't beleive our eyes as to the beauty of this magical place. We were greeted with cold beverages. Every meal was set in a glorious dining room with arches that provided views of the lush gardens and turquoise sea, over looking the wonderful pool. Jacqui was our chef for the week and she made the most mouth watering delights, she checked in to see how we liked everything... we sure asked for it when we asked for more spicy and she sure kicked it up a notch with those Jamaican Scotch Bonnet peppers.. yummo! We had wonderful traditional delights like Salt Fish and Akee, Callaloo, Breadfruit, and fresh fruit. definitely try everything!! While down at the beach Dujon our attendent always had a cold beverage ready for us. One day we decided to stroll the whole length of the beach and on the way back, he actually met us half way with a cooler of icy cold Red Stripe. He always went out of his way for us. We loved our excursions to YS falls and Negril. As for YS Falls, the staff at the Hermitage packed us a wonderful picnic lunch which included fried chicken, Jamaican coleslaw, and homemade banana bread. We were the only visitors in the park that had a linen table cloth and napkins donning the picnic tables. At the Hermitage Lawrence our Headman and the entire staff all made us feel at home. They really started to feel like our new friends and it was hard to leave. I highly recommend the Hermitage as it is a wonderful place of beauty, charm, and relaxation. I will definitely be back.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2010

I stayed at the Hermitage with four friends for a week and it was pure bliss. The house is gorgeous, with every room open to the outdoors, filled with light, breezes and sea views. The location is perfect - far away from the overdeveloped resorts, you will not be approached by pesky vendors. Instead you'll be pampered by the staff, enjoy waking up with sweeping views of the sea from your four-poster bed, and be able to really let go of the hustle-and-bustle and enjoy the beach, the sunsets, and the beautifully-landscaped gardens. Not that you will be isolated from the local community. The staff will arrange for you to visit with the local preschool (we brought school supplies and visited with the kids) or other community service. Your driver will also tell you about the local history, culture, and vegetation as he drives you to Y.S. Waterfalls, Negril, or another day trip destination. The food is amazing too. It's been hard to adjust to not having a soup course every night since I've been home. The cook will tailor your meals to your liking - we asked for saltfish and ackee (traditional Jamaican breakfast) and for our dinners a little spicier. Spending a week in Bluefields was a great way to relax, unwind, and enjoy a beautiful beach location. I will definitely be back!

“Perfection!!”

I just spent a week at the Hermitage and can't even begin to describe how amazing it was. I travel a lot but this was hands down my best experience. The house is AMAZING - it's a fully staffed four bedroom house with pool (and guard dogs!) on 4 acres of land in Bluefields Bay. The house sits on a cliff and has a walkway down to its own private sandy beach, where chairs are waiting and someone is there ready to get you a drink if you need it or to help you with one of the free-to-use kayaks. Our first day there we were met at the beach by a guy with a silver platter of hors d'ouevres. Dinner is served on fine china with silver and on a table - littered with fresh flowers - that overlooks the veranda and the gorgeous pool and sea. Every morning we'd wake up to a cooler packed full of whatever we might want - beers, sodas, water - and breakfast was served with the best freshly squeezed orange juice I've ever had! Oh, and the chef who makes all the meals was phenomenal...the food doesn't just rival that of any 5 star restaurant...it beats it.

This place is truly amazing, every room looking out to the sea, and absolutely amazing staff. When you return from most vacations you need another vacation. Not this one... I simply can't say enough. We LOVED it!!!! I don't know how I can go back to just an ordinary vacation ever again....now I'm spoiled!
