We spent one night at the Edelweiss Hotel one week ago. Positive aspects: The place, high enough uphill to allow a nice view on the village and the mountains. The cleanliness of the rooms, with crispy linen. The friendliness of the staff. On the negative side: The absence of both room service and minibar; not even glasses or cups were available in the room, one has to pay for them (see picture). The lack of any amenities in the bathroom (not even a soap bar or shower caps). The age of the furniture – looks worn out (see picture). The impossibility to park the car in the underground garage. Besides that, breakfast was poor to indifferent. All this for quite high prices. And a neutral comment: The hotel praises itself as “family friendly”, which may be fine if one has little children. But if you dream of a quiet fireplace where you can read your favourite book and sip your drink, you better forget this hotel, as the lobby is a very vivid playground.
Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor have huge verandas

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your review of your recent holiday with us at Hotel Edelweiss in Engelberg. We always appreciate constructive critic about our hotel and services.
I’m glad you liked the location of the hotel and the cleanness, sleep quality and view of the room.
Please accept my sincere apologies, that we could otherwise not live up to your expectations. We’re continually trying to advance our service quality, but unfortunately we cannot afford to offer room service in a 3 star hotel and I don’t think you will find many others who can. I regret, that you didn’t tell us about your need for a mini bar. On a 3 star standard we can’t provide a mini bar for every room, but we do have some rooms with mini bar for guest who request one. Too bad you didn’t tell us, that you prefer a soap bar instead of the liquid soap, which is provided in the room. We always have some soap bars at the reception. I’m sorry that the classic look of our house didn’t suit you. Built in 1904 hotel Edelweiss is a typical art nouveau construction. We’re always on the edge of keeping the classic charm of the art nouveau age and renewing our facilities. I rue, you didn’t tell us, that you need to park your car in a garage. We always have a spot for cars, which shouldn’t stand outside on our Edelweiss parking, behind our Edelweiss-shuttle-bus-fleet in the hotel garage.
You’re absolutely right! As a kids hotel it’s sometimes hard to keep the balance between a cozy atmosphere and child friendliness. We’re always doing our best to separate the children’s playing areas with the lounge area, but it’s not always possible. You experience that especially in weeks with lots of children like the one you stayed in. As you said, if you’re looking for “Relais du Silence”, we’re not the right place to go.
As you see, our philosophy is to provide as many services as possible, if the guests request them, but unfortunately we can’t afford in a 3 star to just provide them like that.
I hope you will give us the chance to restore your faith in our hotel outside of children’s school holidays!
Sincere regards, Peter Kuhn, Managing Owner
