“Very central & easy to find. Nice big room.”
My boyfriend and I spent three nights at the Suisse. This hotel is right across the road from the main train station (Cornavin), on the corner of the pleasant Rue du Mont-Blanc. It's about 15 mins door to door from the airport via train. As with all areas around the main city station, it can be a tad noisy at night but the area isn't half as bad or scary as you would find in other cities. We had a charming, typically Swiss looking Organ Grinder - with cat - playing outside our window every morning so we had no need for an alarm! But the windows are double glazed so it wasn't too bad, and thankfully we had air conditioning too.
The room we were given was one of the cheaper priced rooms (the one with the orange and green curtains on the website). The decor was a little tired, but was clean, tidy and surprisingly spacious for what we paid. The shower over the bath in particular was superb with great pressure and holding a constant temperature. Being on the fifth floor we could just see the top of the Jet d'Eau from our window which was an added bonus.
Breakfast was your typical continental buffet of toast, ham, cheese, cereals, tea, coffee and juices, but what was nice was being able to have our breakfast out on the flower-lined balcony overlooking Cornavin below.
The location was fantastic for eateries and shops, a mix of posh restaurants, watch makers, Starbucks and McDonalds. There's a large underground supermarket on the corner of Rue des Alps (turn right out of the hotel and it's the next road up), very handy for buying lunch things and snacks. Part pedestrianised Rue du Mont Blanc leads you all the way down to the lake and Jet d'Eau so you're right in the heart of Geneva.
