- Signa Hotel Perugia

Solid hotel choice with a short walk to the city center and some nice restaurants nearby.
Hotel signa is a very nice hotel, but a bit difficult to find unless you get very good directions from the hotel itself. Using the train, one must take the little mini metro that runs from the station to the last station that is the closest to the hotel. You then must haul your luggage down a little street to some steps near a church, then down several blocks to the little somewhat steep alleyway where the hotel is located near an archway that leads out of the old city. There is a sign pointing to the hotel from the adjacent street. There are several little pizza restaurants and bakeries nearby, so it is easy to catch a bite if necessary. Breakfast is not included with the reservations at the hotel, but is offered for 7 euros in a nice looking little dining room. We chose to catch some croissants, coffee and juice at a local bakery on our way up to the main part of the old city. The old city is reached by climbing quite a way up some fairly steep walkways along the main streets, but the main part of the old city itself is mostly flat on top, although there are lots of little roads and walkways that lead down to lower levels, and some of these are also pretty steep. Great views of the city and surrounding countryside from places as you walk up to reach the top. The hotel room had a nice little balcony with a view of the Tuscan countryside, plus it had a very clean, nice bathroom with hairdryer, enclosed shower, bidet, toilet, sink, toiletries and very good lighting. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the hotel is extremely quiet plus very clean. There is also a flat screen TV, but no English channels when we were there. Enjoyed our stay, although it was quite short.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Signa. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and best of all had a balcony with an amazing view over the Umbrian hills. It was also air-conditioned so very comfortable during the hot and humid weather. The staff were immensely helpful and courteous - Mario even picked us up from the town square as we were completely lost and disoriented when we arrived in Perugia, and we were very grateful for this.
We enjoyed the continental breakfast provided each morning. I would certainly recommend Hotel Signa.
In general we found the hotel very good value for money. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We did not find the buffet breakfast to our liking and would prefer a selection of cold meats, bread etc rather than be given bread, yoghurt and crossants at our table.
We found the hotel very difficult to find even though we had maps, An entry on the hotel's web site saying that Via del Grillo was off Corso Cavori would have solved the problem.
Great location, free parking, clean and friendly staff. On the downside, access is by a small side street and the rooms are very dated with no air conditioning.
On the whole a great place to stay.
