We chose to stay at this hotel on the basis of its positive rating in Trip Advisor - the high rating and extremely low price seemed to be too good to be true, and I had never previously gone wrong with a Trip Advisor choice.
The hotel appeared to have been built in the early 60´s, with relatively little updating, but the young woman at the check-in was extremely friendly and efficient, and in consideration of the low price and reasonable distance to Perugia, the architectural anonymity can be easily forgiven.
The room was spartan, functional and large. The bathroom was pure 60's, with pink and blue tiles and a shower box with sliding plastic panels that stuck when sliding, and with the crud that unavoidably seems to accumulate in the corners of such types of shower enclosures. This was combined rather incongruously with a solid marble table with wash basin.
The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, which is very important for us - as we need to check my mail for work - even when on vacation. However, it was difficult to get a connection, and when we finally did, it was so slow as to be useless. I called the receptionist, who said that there had been some thunderstorms around and that was likely the cause. We decided to wait until the morning to check my mails.
The next morning, the person who seemed to be the owner, said that they had rebooted the system, but that didn't help. I took the computer to the breakfast area and both there and in the lounge the computer worked fine. So my problem was obviously a case of the Wi-Fi reception being too weak in the room I was in (at the very end of a corridor).
This is where things got weird. The owner argued that that could not be the case in that room, as it was only up one floor higher that there had been reported problems. If it was my hotel, I would have just apologised and offered to move us to another room (it was late October and not like the place had many occupied rooms). But no, in fact he seemed to become rather rude, implying that it was our equipment (lastest model MacBook Pro).
At that point, I decided that there were too many hotels around to waste time with being treated like an idiot (I've been using computers since about 1978) with regard to a problem which was obvious and easy to resolve, so I checked out and drove to another hotel for about the same price, much more comfortable and with working Wi-Fi - within walking distance of Perugia's city centre (which this place is not) for the rest of my stay.
In summary - the young woman at the reception was super, no problem, the room was nothing special but OK, the breakfast was industrial but with a bit more on offer than just typical Italian biscuits and coffee, the price was cheap. But I'll happily pay a bit more to have my reasonable complaint be taken seriously.
I must say though, I can't recognise some of the glowing reviews here (mostly in Italian). Maybe my room wasn't the norm, but the only thing I can see is really attractive about this place is the price. There are lots of charming three star hotels in Italy, but I find it difficult to place this hotel among them.
