“cheap, not so clean lodging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

The two best things this place has going for it are it's very low prices and central location. To be fair, they were in the middle of renovations (we were staying there in the off season) while we were staying, and so were given a small, dirty room with a not very accommodating bathroom. We had a car, and parking turned out to be a big problem. They have a pass, but there's no guarantee that a space is available. And driving to that place is a narrow street adventure. I would've been happier ditching the car a little outside the city. There was no WiFi, and the staff were not all that helpful. It's a short, but steep uphill walk to the main sights of Perugia.

“Cheap Lodging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

I stayed at the Hotel Sant' Ercolano for four nights. This is a budget hotel so do not expect anything remotely fancy or you'll be very disappointed. The standout is the very helpful staff.

The room is small and a little cramped but otherwise very clean. I was given a room which opened to a courtyard which was shared with 2 other rooms. The bathroom and shower has been refurbished so the water pressure was great. The drawback, apart from it being overly cosy, was the lack of an amenities shelf inside the shower stall.

Breakfast was included in my room rate and I thought it was decent but if you can't make do with just coffee and toast, then you may find the spread very mediocre as most of the items were straight off the supermarket shelves.

Location wise, the hotel is perfect but I found the surrounding area a little uncomfortable. The hotel is in a very quiet alley where a majority of the shop lots/private dwellings are vacant. In spite of this, there was never any sign of impending trouble nor was I faced with "shady" characters as described by another reviewer.

“An absolute gem of a hotel at a good price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Stayed here for a week. Wonderful staff, nothing was too much trouble for them, one lady walked us over to a restaurant when we arrived late at night to make sure we found it.
Room immaculately clean, fresh towels every day. Some big hotels don't want to do this!Towels Italian style, they look strange but they dry you very well.
Good price for quite a big room, we paid 45 Euros a day. Breakfast, which was fine, was an extra 5 Euros per person. No air conditioning in the room, but a 'Ventilatore' which is a big tower fan unit. This suited me fine, as I usually turn the aircon off at night anyway as I find airconditioning on overnight gives me respiratory infections.

Shower excellent, lots of hot water. Next time would request a room on the top floor, some have balconies. Room above us had some love athletes one night, combined with squeaky bed springs and a three times a night record this was a bit noisy!

Parking in Perugia at the big car parks is expensive at 15 Euros a day, but the receptionist got us a 'Permesso' which is a pass on your windscreen that allows you to park free in Via Marzia. The hotel is in the old town, which means very narrow and dark streets, but we were perfectly safe there, and it is close to the main square.

All in all an excellent stay, recommend this hotel to everyone.

“Very nice! In the center. Good price.”

It is a very nice hotel, really in the middle of the historical center. The staff is specially nice and helpful. I recommend it and I would go there again.

If you are driving, I suggest you call them in advance and arrange how to arrive and park. The old center is a chaos for cars.

Charming traveler's hotel near Church of Sant Ercolano and 2 minutes walk from the center of old Perugia. Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. Pleasant, clean room, and good breakfast. Excellent value. I always felt welcome and comfortable.
