This is one of the smartest hotels I have ever experienced: elegant, well-established (1922) and in a central area. I found it generally very welcoming and comfortable. Its spacious reception area can be approached via two courtyards (though one will do). The corridor walls are decorated with pictures of Old Perugia, and also some French ones, and there are even lunettes (small arch-like paintings) above an intersection on the first floor. The room was fairly small with no view and not, I think, very attractively decorated, but had a very high ceiling and the tallest curtains I have ever seen. It was pitch-black at night and there was no problem sleeping. TV was all in Italian, with very few subtitles and none in English. That does not really worry me, though, and it was quite hilarious to see Gordon Ramsay dubbed in the language - it certainly suited him! There was a standard buffet in a vast breakfast room, with optional waiter service. I found the staff consistently polite and helpful, even though I needed to ask more questions than usual (not their fault). Fortunately I didn't have to ask for a walking stick, as I feared I would after injuring my left knee in a fall somewhere else. This hotel undoubtedly contributed to a deeply satisfying short break in Perugia. I think it's now my favourite Italian city (with Florence a close second).
