“greatest base for a Tuscany vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

Beautiful, peaceful, romantic, friendly and convenient. A ten minutes bus ride to Siena, with free parking near the bus station, easy short drive to Monteregione and many beautiful Hill towns withing one to two hours beautiful drive. Great breakfast, pleasant pool, ideal for families with children. Horses in the meadow, birds singing and flowers everywhere. We got a spacious two story apartment and loved coming back "home" after a day of exploring, eating and wine tasting. The owners are friendly and helpful. We would love to return with a group of friends. There is still a lot to enjoy there. Stay for at least a week.
It is an hour by train to Florence, but Florence in July was so crowded with tourists, it made it unpleasant. Avoid the guided tours in the Uffizi. It is a waste of money, crowded rooms with several groups. The guides speak to you through static filled headphones, you can barely hear the info. We felt like cattle in a herd the entire time in that city. We have been there before, five years ago, and it seems that it has gotten much worse.

Room Tip: The Castle apartment was great.

“Under the Tuscan Sun”

This place was absolutely perfect for us since we had been wanting to get out of the big city and have some down time in a quant and quiet villa in the Tuscany Valley.

It can be a bit tricky to find by car so I advise getting really good directions before heading to the location and come during the daytime. Also this is a location that is not accessible by mass transporation or trains, only by car easily.

When you drive up the driveway, you are instantly transformed from the busy city to a tranquil horse farm with lots of trees, no neighbors to be seen and lots of natural outdoor beauty. After parking in their provided parking lot, we were instantly greeted by the Villa Dog named Charlie and a nice man named Marco. He helped us with our room and told us about breakfast and services they provided. The services include daily room cleaning, great morning breakfast from 8am-10am everyday and also allowed us to use their washing machine while staying there for a load. There is no dryer but they provide everyone with a drying rack outside to hang up wet clothes.

The rooms are very big for what we expected. The bed is a Queen size and also a dresser is included with an armoir of extra pillows and blankets. The bathroom is a big size with a sink, cabinet for your toiletries, shower, toilet and bidet. They also provide alot of towels.

The sign in the office states that they do not provide internet access but my husband asked on our last day where the closest place to find internet for our laptop and they gave us the wireless password. It's worth asking for when you arrive if you have a laptop with you. The internet access did not work from our room but did work well in the garden terrace area overlooking the Tuscany beauty and horses.

The people working here are very polite, friendly and helpful. Because this isn't a touristy big city, their English is not as good as it would be probably in Rome or Venice but they did their best to communicate with us as well as could be. Aside from being a Villa, I believe this is also a horse ranch of some sort. They have a lot of horses living here with many workers on the property taking care of the horses.

There is a swimming pool on property but of course since we were there in the offseason, it was not available.

The only two complaints I have about this place is the room got to be really cold and stayed cool through out the day. We were not able to adjust the heat in our room to a more comfortable temperature. Also, if you don't mind being woken up by the neighing of the horses in the morning, then you should be okay. I actually enjoyed being woken up by horses since it's not something that normally occurs for me and much better then being woken up by slamming doors or honking horns.

We paid about 85 Euros a night here.

Highly recommend this place and if I am ever in the Tuscany area again, I would stay here!

“Incredible place to stay”

This was quite a delight after being in small rooms in Rome. The rooms were very large -- two bedrooms, two baths with a kitchen. The farm has 40 horses which are all friendly and ready for a pet. Charlie the dog was welcoming. Very nice if you want to relax and enjoy the beautiful hillside. We did a side trip to Florence and Siene, which are wonderful cities. Thanks Mario!!

“Quiet and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

This place was the best we have stayed during our 15-days trip around Toscana and Umbria. Close to Siena la Selva is a very convenient place to drive sightseeing numerous Toscana places - San Giminiano, Volterra, Monteriggione, Montepulciano, Pienza and others. The hotel disposes of rather large territory with the major part given to numerous horses, which grase all the day (very impressive view against the background of Toscana hills!). On the other side la Selva has all the necessary things for comfortable staiyng: spacious, ideally clean and cordially designed rooms, flowered terraces, large and regularly cleaned pool, playground for babies, bicycle paths. The breakfast was balanced and fresh. It`s worth to mention a specific smell near the stables, but it wasn`t annoying for us as we adore horses and were glad to contact with them. The hotel owners and the staff were very helpful and friendly (despite some language barriers), so we felt like guests, but not clients. We would love to come back to this wonderful place sometime.

“Great Place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

Me and my husband went to italy for our honeymoon. We stayed here for 5 nights. the people there were amazing.. they were so helpful to us and all of our needs. They called taxis for us which was a huge help since we couldn't speak a lick of italian. It is about a 15 euro taxi ride form the train station. You can take a bus but it will drop you a while from here, and the walk is not recommended. the roads are small and the cars are fast. our room was delightful we stayed in PIno. It was a 2 bedroom apartment with a kitchen. it was so cute. We were about an hour train ride from Florence. If you stay here you will defiantly need to rent some type of transportation. If you stay here you should really STAY here, like at the property, is amazing. the pool is awesome... we didn't use it for all it was worth, so if you are looking for a place to come and stay and relax in a perfect beautiful place.. this is your spot......
