We arrived in San Gimignano Italy after driving from Rome. The location of the hotel near the main entrance to the old town is great. We were advised by the staff to park at the lower level parking area cause it only cost 5 euro a day as opposed to parking areas 1-3 that charge 20 euro a day. It was a half kilometre walk up hill but we dropped off our luggage first.

The hotel rooms are not flash but our room looked over the value and was located on the first floor. Small lift, large room and bathroom which was clean and well kept. The greatest thing about the hotel and the room was the morning view over the valley. Just magic!!
Staff very pleasant and breakfast which was included was well presented. Even made cappuccino's.
The restaurant is not part of the hotel directly even tohugh it carries the same name and they obviously have a commercial arrangement. The view from the restaurant is fantastic. Wifi is good from the room and the foyer, They do however charge to use their computer and internet which is a shame.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful. They help booked a restaurant for us and gave us touring advise.
There is a great cafe opposite the hotel that makes and sells lots of cakes and a great nougat as well as making a good coffee.

We returned after 20 years where we stayed in Room 11 (nice balcony and valley view). The view was the same, but the staff was nowhere near up to it's former standards. The breakfast waitress was inattentive and rude, and they were frequently out of pastries. She appeared to hide in the kitchen, and was surly with a lovely English couple who asked for a "latte" which she didn't care to understand. She directed them to a pitcher of milk and returned to her hiding spot. We noticed the front desk to be spotty in terms of helpfulness. More indiferent than rude Rooms are clean still and it is a lovely place, but it will be our last visit. Just doesn't have the pervasive friendliness. What's more, we noticed the same thing about the town. Marcella, who owns a nearby bakery explained that it has been beseiged by tourists and this accounts for the diminishing hospitality.

The location is convenient and the room comfortable clean but basic. Facing the street can be noisy. Breakfast was good but the evening meal was only average. The view from the restraunt is however spectacular

The room was a bit disappointing but the terrace with its view made the hotel a great place to stay. Excellent breakfast with astonishing view.
