“Nice accomodations”

Although this property is very spa oriented, it worked well and was in a good location of sightseers driving a rental car. The two-room suite was quiet and quite spacious. The furnishings were nondescript. Each room had French doors out to a terrace shared by the neighboring rooms that offered a scenic view of the Tuscan countryside. After one long day of walking up and down hills and stairs in the spectacular towns we visited, I decided to soak in the jetted bathtub and slept like rock.

We were a bit taken aback when we saw people in the hotel dining room wearing hooded, terry cloth bathrobes as they were obviously partaking in the spa amenities. I was even more surprised however when I asked the front desk for robes and was told the manager said they would cost us €5 /day. Common sense prevailed when one of the employees intervened and we were ultimately loaned the robes at no additional charge.

Villa San Paolo was a good choice and a nice place to stay.

“What a place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

We stayed one week in August and it could not have been better. Our room in the villa was wonderful, the service was great not too much to be obtrusive. Food was excellent although we did not eat at the hotel at night as there was so much choice in the surrounding area. I left a bag behind on the last day and they very kindly sent it home for me. Thats what I call service. I would go back tomorrow.

“Excellent food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

Booked this hotel to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and wanted something a bit special. We booked it on the understanding that we may get a room upgrade if there was one available on arrival, but sadly there wasn't and so stayed in a standard room, which was quite basic but clean. It led out onto a small garden area which was surrounded by lots of shrubbery and so kept out the sun and daylight, hence the room was quite dark, so had to keep the lights on and didn't really feel like a room to relax in. Also the room was above a games room so we were kept awake by guests playing pool, etc. The room is my only gripe. The rest of the hotel was superb, lovely pool area and fantastic views of the Tuscan countryside. Couldn't fault the restaurant and staff. The food was fantastic, especially the breakfast where you had a choice to suit most cultures' tastes. We stayed a week and did 3 nights halfboard and 4 nights B&B, but ended up having another evening meal as the food was so good. The hotel is not far from San Gimignano, but you had to drive there; it wasn't within walking distance of anywhere. It was about a 10 minute drive to Certaldo, where there is a train station - would recommend getting a train from there to Florence or Siena (each about an hour's train journey) and train fare very cheap. All in all a very good holiday.

“A sophisticated yet family friendly hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

Villa San Paolo provided excellent service and comfort to myself, my husband and two daughters aged 11 and 8 for a week in mid summer. The location is great for access to Florence, Pisa, Sienna etc. The swimming pool works well with enough space in the surrounding paved and garden areas for all who want to use it, with a mixture of shady and sunny spots for loungers. The guests are mixed nationalities, families, couples and seniors. The service is polite and prompt and the rooms are well appointed and clean. Exceptionally quiet in the evening. We did not use the spa but many guests were doing so. The dinner menu was a bit of a stretch for our children's tastes but they managed and thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet. We would love to go to this hotel again.
