“Little slice of heaven in Toscana.”

FIRST IMPRESSION:
While there are many choice for accommodation around San Gimignano, there are few that tick all of the right boxes. The setting is wonderful, just far enough out of SG to be quiet and yet close enough to easily slip into the village.
ROOMS: The rooms have been well finished and offer comfortable beds (not an easy find in Italy!) Our room was not in the main house and was perfect. Large with plenty of space and a lovely view over the hills to the back of the property. The bathroom was modern and clean - with a great shower.
FOOD:
Alessandro, your host, offers set menu dinners - most of the ingredients are grown in his own garden. A true delight and good quality and value for money. The gardens are relaxing and peaceful - and the views and smells are delightful! Whilst the breakfast is simple - you don't need more and those that have complained you do are perhaps not seasoned European travelers and are looking for a big hot American style breakfast??
CHILL OUT:
We bought some prosciutto, cheeses and wine in SG and sat under the huge trees above the pool and took in the surrounding view. A great thing to do at the end of the day.
OVERALL:
The position is great - as regular travelers to Italy finding somewhere that feels like home is always a joy. We love this area and Alessandro and his family have done a wonderful job in restoring and caring for this lovely farm house. We will be back there in a heartbeat!
NOTE:
Credit card is accepted for payment of the rooms, but not for food and beverage! For us this was no big deal - as it is this way in many Agritourismos in Italy. But some poeple may not be prepared for this. The property is on the main road that runs from Volterra to SG - so in peak season it is busy.

Room Tip: We loved the rooms not in the main house section of the property - we had a room that faced the back...

“Convenient base for visiting Tuscany by car...”

...includes easy parking just outside your door and comfortable space for children. Staff are ready to help when needed yet are very prudent allowing guests to feel very much at home. Mr. Martelli (who runs the place) ensures that all is in pristine condition and is also keen to volunteer local knowledge that may be very helpful for one's travel needs.

We have now visited this charming hotel once again this year and Alessandro and his delightful family continue to give a wonderful welcome and outstanding service. This is a real home from home for us and the hotel is perfectly positioned to enjoy the hill towns and villages that make this area so special. This year, we had to make a last minute alteration to our booking and in spite of it being high season, Alessandro agreed to the change without charge. The pool area is lovely to relax and the BBQ is a real feast - not to be missed. We highly recommend Il Casale del Cotone

“Definitely Worth It!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

We stayed at the property for 3 weeks and could not get enough. The trip in to town was just right for a run every morning and it is so convenient to Sienna and Florence. The dinners that Allesandro hosts are nothing short of exceptional!!

“Wonderful and Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

The property is beautiful and well kept. The hillside view and proximity to San Gimignano city center makes it perfect for a Tuscan feel. Highly recommend this for all travelers. We were traveling w/ two children (5 and 2 years old). Breakfast was typical hotel/B&B spread. Pool was nice, especially for the kids to play and swim. Plenty of parking. Alessandro was a great host. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main building.
