This was our second stay in this charming little hotel in the heart of San Gimignano. We actually booked the rooms as we drove toward the town from Sienna and were lucky enough to get the last two available for that night.
We were traveling with our adult son and his partner so we did not want the expense of a luxury suite. The cost of the rooms reflected the season and the size/type of room and for this town we thought the charge very reasonable.
The rooms were basic but comfortable and we were very happy to stay here for a second time. Our last visit was 5 years ago for a special anniversary and we wondered if there would be any deterioration in the hotel. We were delighted to find everything well maintained and comfortable. This time we had an upper floor room with a pleasant view over the rooftops to the fields beyond. Last time we enjoyed a garden suite that was far bigger and more luxurious, but you get what you pay for right and this time we were on a tighter budget.
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, all of the reception staff spoke excellent English which made everything very easy. There was a delightful breakfast included in the price which consisted of fresh fruit, breads, cheese, proscuitto and coffee. There was also a good selection of cereals and juices.
There is no parking allowed in San Gimignano all cars are parked outside the city walls, this is not a problem and we were even directed to a small area of parking with no time limit and at no cost so that we were able to forget about the car the next day and take our time re-discovering the delights of this small walled town.
This is a unique hotel in an even more unique spot. If you can take the time to visit this town and its peaceful setting I strongly recommend you do so. It is so romantic for couples and so relaxing you may never want to leave.
